  • It’s possible he was exposed and was carrying the bug prior to Spain but tested negative on lateral flow on the way there and back.
Day 2 PCR caught the end of it, and NHS PCR is negative.

In theory, due to Positive day 2 PCR, not sure he’s supposed to come out or isolation for a number of more days?

  • Progressively increasing exercise load brought back the majority of fitness.
Been a very light year on the bike and subsequently a fair amount of weight gain.
I’m a Taekwondo instructor so 3 x 2 hour sessions while increasing my personal involvement and intensity from May onwards has meant anaerobic / short efforts are still ok, but my aerobic fitness needs a lot of work. 80w down on FTP compared to same time last year.

  • That is my thinking, but I am the only one with that view here.

  • My sister lft'd +ve today. Awaiting pcr result but she's out of the meal tomorrow with our Mum for sure.

  • Just got another visit from the Gendarme to check that we were still at our location and we had a negative test.

They tried to tell us off that the kids were still under quarantine because they didn’t do lateral flow results (no requirement in the French rules for children under a certain age). Apparently local prefecture rules can be different and it is up to us to check in advance. Complete bullshit.

My wife flew off the rails when they told us that we should have called them with the negative result so that they could verify and ‘release’ us. We weren’t even given a contact, or station that they were from when they visited the first time. And the rules state that you are free to come out or isolation after day 2 when you test negative.

Wife shouting down 2 police on Christmas Eve was a sight to behold.

Outcome is fortunately not Christmas in a cell, but we and the children are ‘exceptionally’ allowed to move freely. Subject to the prefecture not having any further issues….

  • My partner had a positive LFT on Monday the day before we were planning to head up to my parents for Christmas. So that cancelled that. A PCR came back positive as well. I tested negative to a LFT several days in a row but was feeling achey and sore throat/runny nose so got a PCR that came back positive as well today. We’ve both mostly been fine really. Partner has lost taste and smell which is the worst bit overall.

  • Partner has lost taste and smell which is the worst bit overall.

You say that but I've really got behind the lack of care around farting.

  • "Cold like symptoms" for me this morning. Looking for testing in Leyton.

  • Last Thursday I was at a work Christmas thing down south. Friday I got the train back to Scotland. Once I got back to Scotland I went to the pub once but other than that didn't really go anywhere or do anything.

Travelled back down to England for Christmas on Thursday eve. Got pinged for 3 days of isolation yesterday. I'm guessing this means someone on the train tested positive. At this point should I be following the Scottish rules (isolate for 10 days) or English rules (isolation would be 7 days so it's already over)?

Have done 6 tests since last Friday including PCR last Friday eve at this point so I'm 99.9% sure I don't have it

  • There's a PCR testing site in Leytonstone. I walked in last week for a test; no wait, done in 15 minutes, results in 20 hours. Not sure about xmas day etc.

  • Sister's house is riddled, one positive PCR, one negative and more to come, my mum is staying there for Xmas, dad's not heading over which is sensible.

  • Or no isolation because you are double jabbed?

  • Cheers. I think I'm going to go to the one on Hackney Marshes. Always seemed to be quiet when I've cycled past. Shut at 12 today though.

  • I'm tri-jabbed.

I've reread the rules and actually you can stop self-isolation in Scotland if you're double jabbed and get a negative PCR. But surely I follow the English rules when I'm in England.

I guess I'll see if I can get a PCR tomorrow and otherwise I'll just continue as normal

Wouldn't really bother me normally as I don't do much around Christmas anyway but my partner will be visiting in a couple of days and it's her 30th birthday so I had planned on doing a few things beforehand

  • But surely I follow the English rules when I'm in England.

I think you are confusing the rules of someone who has a positive PCR (isolate for 10 days, fewer with negative LFT after days 7/8) and close contacts. As a close contact you are exempt from isolation if you are fully vaccinated (source https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works#exemptions-from-self-isolation-for-contacts ). You are advised to take an LFT every day.

  • Wife, 10 month old and I all tested positive on Tuesday. Feel fine now. Thankfully it seemed mild.

We are staying with my in laws, one 65+ and the other 70+ who have been hit a little harder but generally ok (so yesterday in bed and not doing anything much today)

It’s a pisser as we have been so careful. My 10 month old did 2 hours of nursery settling in the week prior and she went down with it first. Definitely very spreadable!

  • Pfizer booster done, husband ended up feeling rough from AZ twice, no problems with this one. Bar a sore arm.

Roll on the mRNA jabs if you ask me :)

  • GF and I got booster on Wednesday by random luck. I was scheduled to get it on Jan 16. A tiny neighbourhood pharmacy just opened and they had stock. Best Christmas present ever.

Friend went to a Manitoba testing site and waited over 4 hours. People here are taking it more seriously than a few months ago.

  • In Scotland they recommend a PCR, but yeah must have changed recently to allow to you to leave isolation if you're jabbed and test negative

    You're a non-household contact if you:

have had face-to-face contact less than 1 metre apart from the person who tested positive for any length of time

have had any contact less than 1 metre apart from the person who tested positive for 1 minute or longer

have been within 2 metres of the person who tested positive for more than 15 minutes car-shared with the person who has tested positive

As a non-household close contact, you should self-isolate and take a PCR test.

    Thanks though!

  • Has anyone seen any data with risk of severe covid (lets say needing hospitalisation) of those who have had covid previously but no vaccination VS those who have not had it (as far as u know anyways) but are vaccinated ?

  • Third visit from the Gendarme.
Apparently the kids are still supposed to be under 10 day quarantine, and therefore in their view shouldn’t be leaving with us on the ferry tomorrow.

Further contradicting info from the third set of police.

French foreign office guidance says children under 12 are exempt from testing and isolation. According to the guidance, children don’t have to fill in the form, but we were asked to at the border getting on the boat.
    https://uk.ambafrance.org/FAQ-Travel-between-France-and-the-UK
Apparently their interior office guidance is not the same as this, though as you would expect, there is nowhere that we can find that says this.

  • Sounds very French to me.
