  • If it took a Ferrari tech to tell the difference between your Subaru and the real thing, would the difference matter?

  • Lol. FWIW I’m not anti rep. But claiming it’s indistinguishable from the real thing is hilarious. I’ve seen the macro photos of Noob reps versus genuine Submariner’s. There are clear differences. Both externally and especially at the movement level. Yeah, the rep’s rotor might look real, but once you take the rotor off, it’s immediately apparent.

And yes, I stand by my point. This ‘real world saving’ is a nonsense.

  • Fair enough, I’ve seen articles claiming things both ways (although I’m not sure noob is top-tier any more) but not compared for myself. Some of them claim to clone the Rolex sub movement…
I’d like one to wind people up but not @ £500!

The car thing is a tortuous analogy anyway but I get that mentally one will never be the other, regardless of physical similarity.

  • I dunno I've seen enough videos where the expert is like "you can clearly tell this is a replica because the top line of the crown is slightly too thick" or similar. I can see the appeal of them up to a price but beyond maybe £200 you're not getting a better movement just the styling and I ain't paying many hundreds for something that doesn't keep time as well as a budget seiko
