The Marquess of Salisbury of Salisbury was.

More recently Douglas-Home was a member of the Lords when he became PM although he resigned and became an MP fairly quickly. Perhaps there will be a vacancy somewhere in North West London?

The Tories were ridiculed when Douglas-Home took the role, and that was before Viscount Stangate and the Peerage Act of 1963.

How can a party that has somehow positioned itself as an antidote to the metropolitan elite, appoint an unelected Lord as party leader and PM?

The electorate would laugh them out of office.

The EU offered a massive reduction in checks. That offer still might need to be refined still don't get me wrong the EU might need to move more.

Actually, this is worrying - the new person will bring an uplift in the polls with a GE following not far behind. Hence the tory reluctance to replace ABP Johnson right now (or, indeed, any time in the predictable immediate future)... And thus the opposition will remain the opposition, albeit possibly with a higher number of seats.

As for Brexit and Europe: my guess is they're likely to remain fixed to their positions and keep their "friendly" approach to discussions without giving anything up. There's a long way to go still.

It's the best move for Johnson to make - Truss is very popular with the Tory membership because of all of the cabinet she's both made a successful job of rolling over trade deals, secured some new ones (that they're shit and will destroy British farming isn't important as the newspapers that pander to Tories won't report that part), and she's not got any obvious problems such as refugees landing on beaches in Kent.

Therefore giving her the responsibility to sort out the deal that he and Frost agreed, but without the support to invoke A16 means she'll be both unable to do what the base wants and if she tries to make progress like a grownup by actually negotiating they'll hate her for being a traitor.

Surely Frost resigns because it's the only way he can save face from mishandling the 'negotiations' completely and painting himself into a corner?

Nah. He’s been betrayed by Johnson caving into the US (and some would argue reality).

Frost doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong. He’s jumped now because he wants to make it clear that Johnson has refused to support the Clean Global Brexit.

Wow. That is awful.

I'm slightly sceptical of this as I've recently bought white goods and noticed energy scales have changed recently - the scales have changed, because they've been made more testing - the one on the right just looks like the older scale and the one on the left the new one. Are these definitely from the same point in time?
