Looks great. For the ringko/car insertion bit are you taking the bars off or still going with the loosen and twist move? How are the brakes handling the moving about and car packing?
I've got similar intentions for mine, and the same car coincidentally.

Oh that was the other thing, I got a lifeline 5nm torque wrench for taking apart putting together, which feels like it was worth it. I had to add an extra 6mm hex key into it so I can do my seat post but that's fine.
For the back seat upright move I just turn the bars sideways, but for the semi rinko thing I removed it entirely but kept the front wheel in the fork. I couldn't work out how to put the bars back on because i hadn't removed the brakes and the twisted cables confused me. I think I'll try removing the brakes next time but will need to get those bleed blocks. Having a handle bar detached but connected by cables to a frame is kind of annoying.
Brakes dealt with it ok, though for some reason I had to pump the front a bunch to get it tight again, but once done it has stayed that way. Not sure what was up with that.

I did a 60km loop, the first half was standard for North Devon; agonising standing climbs or the indignity of pushing followed by terrifying descents, riding the brakes all the way down, tractors, cars, potholes around every blind corner and no verge to jump into. Was good fun. It's given me more confidence in the gearing choice I made on this bike.
Second half was the Tarka trail, loads of retired ebike rental cyclo tourists, cargo shorts dads on specialized allezs, kids in trailers, those random grumpy looking shirtless gammon who fly around cycle paths on deregulated e-mtbs, fully lycrad up German ladies riding front sus trekking bikes faster than I could keep up with, a couple on a Kona tandem. All the cycling world. So nice to see how pretty much anyone will ride a bike if you simply remove cars from the equation.

Mr Jan Heine would not be impressed by my car boot rinko and frankly neither am I.
Does anyone know if those epic bleed blocks fit into a caliper whilst the pads are still in?

You know what, even the semi dodgy boot packing makes me smile. Gets me wondering whether anyone has ever added S&S couplers to one.
Based on your tale of the 60km ride out in Devon has inspired me to book a trip to the Northumberland coast on mine later on this summer. Nice to see a little bike as such a capable machine, especially in its SS guise.

Great question, thanks for asking. You're absolutely right.
I honestly just never considered it. I only ever see roof racks in aspirational images showing like, blonde people carrying surfboards or 6k downhill wagons, so I assumed they weren't a viable option.

maybe get roof bars and a roof box?
that way you can still transport any stuff that you can't fit in the boot because of the bike being in there. -

Took the miniv up to Edinburgh. Old town commuting not really worth it but the cycle out to Leith and back was great as was blasting around the meadows etc. Recommend. Saw about fifty croix de fers out here. Clearly gravel country.
Aside: I don't know how the pannier.cc bikepacking overnighter set get their bikes up to Edinburgh. The train lockers are a joke. I could barely fit this bike into them. If it was my 29er with front rack you could forget it.
In terms of upgrades, in addition to stickers I have purchased an eBay special "26er folding bike cover" which packs down to a bidon size and I think could be used if I was forced to pack the bike rinko style. Haven't had to resort to it yet though.
Also thought about soft luggage but I always seem to have just enough capacity for day rides and the long stem means a handlebar bag won't really fit without faff. Am thinking of buying yet another bagman qr so I can use my super c audax but it's not really a priority.

Thanks for the inspiration for my build!
I’m a similar height to yourself (179cm). I can only justify this bike by seeing myself having hours of fun on it. I’ve been scoping this thread to determine how short to cut the steerer tube.
All I’m short is the frame itself. Hopefully the pistachio frame drops end of this month.
I have this so far minus the hydraulic Deore brakes and 160 rotors in the picture…

So a few months back when I decided I was going in for the plunge. Amazon.com (not.ca) had the Zee derailleur for $60 Cdn so that was a no brainer. I bought free ride option so I can run a 11x36.
I searched around further and the shifter and crankset was there too. For under $250 I might as well keep going that route.

On post #67 what length did you cut the steerer tube to? I was thinking that might be the sweet spot.
I got 100mm of spacers plus the height of the stem clamp which is I believe 40mm.
Enclosed is a picture for anyone wondering the relation to a 700c bike

At the moment I have 40mm of spacers plus the stem clamp.
With its arrival in Leicester the bike has been ridden in all three major UK cities (Birmingham and Manchester being the other two.)

Thanks! By looking at your build I’m trying how to figure out how I’m going to build mine. (I’m a little shorter than you).
Is that what the weather is like in the UK now? Out here in Canada we’re getting an arctic blast… pretty darn “crispy” out here.
