For a long time I was a die-hard v60 fanboy, brewed twice a day with the Hoffman method, Svart grinder, gooseneck temperature controlled kettle, concisely timed pouring technique, the whole 9 yards. Then I switched back to aeropress one day because I'd run out of filters and now every time I make a v60 brew it tastes watery and flavourless in comparison. Haven't touched my v60 in almost a year now

I think the sweating is the booze, I can't imagine the cheese is made with it, it's probably been dunked in it and it's absolutely fucked it.

This what I don't want to turn into. I feel like I'm bad enough with his french press method.

VST basket made a very non-negligible difference. Massively helped with consistency for me.

Yeah, stick with Aeropress, consistently good coffee and much less faff. You can still have fun trying out the near endless list of aeropress brewing recipes if you get bored

Finally made the pilgrimage.
Really very lovely coffee. @Nah

The Aeropress is a total coffee gadget acquisition syndrome killer, I use it six days out of seven, I might pull a shot of espresso twice/three times a week, haven't used the Clever Dripper in months and haven't touched my old faithful Moka pot since I refurbished it last year... It's the king of coffee setups... IMVHO, obvs...

Could you just do that before bed? So it’s ready to go in the morning (yeah I know fresh grind is better)

Did you get any of the Columbia Yellow Bourbon - it’s pretty amazing.

I know its probably going against the grain, but does it matter which stainless steel filter I get for my aeropress? Any recommendations?

Haven't tried a variety, have had 2 of these (a colleague was using my Aeropress and inadvertently dumped it in the bin with the puck) and can't complain: https://www.amazon.co.uk/KOFFI-DISC-AeroPress-Reusable-Stainless/dp/B01ES9169W

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look and see if anyone is doing Indonesian beans in Bristol

I'm the opposite, I find the aeropress always leans toward over-extracted, heavy and silty coffee. I even find the Kalita Wave worse than the V60. I do V60 mostly now as I can't be arsed with espresso too.

Same happened to me, then they say they'll get another one, then they're appalled it costs a tenner, then nothing.

If anyone is up near Cambridge, I've been to Hot Numbers roastery a few times to meet some car nerd friends and it's pretty great. They roast beans well, they make coffee well, and they serve pour over/filter which I like. They also do decent breakfasts but better than breakfast, they make excellent pizzas on site. I've not been to the cafes in central Cambridge, but the roastery in Shepreth is well worth a visit.
Not bought any of their beans to take away yet, but mostly because I just cycle through Yellow Bourbon, Dark Arts, and Monmouth so not had a chance, but I might give them a go next time I'm up there.

It's mostly middle class Cambridgeshire type car nerds who frequent there so it's still very cycle friendly in case you were thinking of going for a bike ride.

Get the mocka out I love mine the daft ritual of the prep makes it feel quite science. I want to get a bigger one though so I can get 2 cups out of one brew

Cheers, while I've never had major "disasters" I do find there's the odd time it doesn't quite pull as expected, so might let the elves know and see how that works for me...!

I did a bit of searching on this thread but could not find an answer - has anyone done the gearbox upgrade to their Baratza grinder? Not that I am having any issues with the current setup but wondered what the benefits were.

Not got any useful info myself, but looking forward to seeing where you go with it. Think the common complaint is that a few of them have plastic gearboxes, not sure if there are more durable options though. What grinder have you got? Not sure if there's a decent upgrade out there for my Sette, thankfully it seems to be holding up fine so far.

I have the Encore and I am just curious. There is this from Baratza
https://coffeehit.co.uk/collections/part-for-baratza-encore/products/baratza-gearbox-2-0-upgrade-kit
but it makes me curious when companies start throwing out 2.0 versions of their components. I mean, I'm glad they offer an upgrade route rather than a "bin it and buy a new one" approach, but without context from the manufacturer, I go all DiCaprio from Inception.
Ah. Nevermind.

"The Encore has always been built with GB2.0"
Plus it has numbers on a screen so very easy to see if you've adjusted it by accident.
