  • If it has a silent mode at all that's good enough for me! Will check it out, ta

  • We've got a Miele G 4310 SC, hasn't put a foot wrong in four years, really quiet... You wouldn't know it was on apart from the rinse cycle and that's pretty quiet...

  • We have a neff dishwasher. It’s super quiet and even does clever stuff like opening the door at the end of the cycle to let steam out and for the contents to dry.

  • I think the Neff/Siemens/Bosch mid to high range are almost identical in feature range etc.

I highly value longer warranties on regular use appliances like washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers and would make sure it comes with that.

  • Talking to their engineers they are identical under the bonnet. It’s just which logo you prefer.

  • As are some of the Gaggenau appliances like dishwashers and washing machines that aren’t their signature pieces.

  • It's bonkers that this is not known more widely - So many brands are just rebadged, to the extent that it's just the stickers that are different.

  • Each “brand” has a usp - neff it’s slide and hide oven doors.

Choose the gimmick you like and then buy all the other appliances to match.

  • When's a good time to buy stuff? My understanding of sale periods like black friday is that often prices are artificially hiked for a length of time in advance so that they can accurately claim the items are on sale. Example - looking at an AEG oven on AO which it says was 1100. With black friday and a voucher I can get it down to 700 but the RRP is only 800. Now? Next week? After Christmas? I don't need it until mid jan and don't really care what I get down to the model, but would like half way decent stuff?

  • Anyone interested in a Bosch Serie 4 Washing Machine - 8kg Load, 1400rpm Spin, White?

Its a year old, perfect working condition, but surplus to requirements (and its in Swiss Cottage / South Hampstead). Was £450 i think, so maybe £250?

  • Cars do the same. It's why it can make more sense to buy a used Ford Focus rather than a VW Golf or the whatever the other brand I can't remember that shares everything was. There's far more Fords so parts tend to be cheaper. Function is the same. People that care about badges are best avoided.

  • Would also like to know, as some bath tap/shower set I was looking at last week has gone from 220 to 310 in advance of (hopefully?) going back down later this week in the 'sale'. Bastards.

  • Any thoughts on robot vacuums? I've just had to return a Roomba that wasn't working (bought at a price that, as it turns out, was too good to be true) and wondering whether to get another one of those but a cheaper model or look at stuff like Neato or Eufy which is cheaper.

  • Anyone got a recommendation for a cheapish but decent microwave? Our built in AEG one is dunzo and need something to see us through next 6m

  • If it's just for 6m go to the British Heart Foundation, then donate it back when you're done.

Less waste, money to a good cause.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for stove top kettles.

    Not a billionaire though

  • Any thoughts on robot vacuums?

    Yes.

They're fucking ridiculous. Get a proper vacuum and put your back into it.

  • How's that? Do they sell electrical stuff ?

    I see they take donations

  • Yes.

They always have load of random hifi stuff and cheese toasty machines.

  • I got an eufy one. So far it's great.

  • Ikea do a nice one

  • I bought a Le Creuset one recently. Takes twice as long to convert 2l of water into steam than my electric Dualit does - but I think that is to be expected.

  • I use the stellar black stovetop on my induction hob, cost me £55 and takes over 2l. Boils like a champ compared to every electric kettle that's ever just stopped working on me

    A kettle

  • We’ve been through an unusual number of kettles over the years. Our latest has a Brita filter which I like but it does mean a new filter every month which is an ongoing expense. We do live in a hard water area.

The thing I like about the stove top is that it’s one price forever. Save the descaling every now and again

  • With an induction hob with a hefty boost mode the stovetop will probably be the same or quicker than an electric kettle.

I find them far less practical though as they don't just click off when boiled.
