  • I’m an outlier with a sample of one, but I found Kinlin XR26 difficult to build with (rank amateur here) and there were a few qc issues like dross stuck in the rim and hops at both seams - much better luck for me with DT and Sun-Ringle.

  • Does anyone (I'm thinking most likely @thecycleclinic ) have a conversion chart for CX-rays and a DT Tensio 2?

  • Anyone know the max or suggested spoke tension for a 32h Surly track hub? The little paper doc that came with the hub doesn't say. I got it pretty evenly tensioned at ~100 kgf. Any reason to push it further?

  • Thought it would be the rims that dictate max spoke tension

  • Thought it would be the rims

Yeah, tangentially spoked the rim is likely to give up before the hub.

    Unless you're about 300lb, 1kN is plenty for a 32H track wheel.

  • Wow! Complete brain fade, of course it's the rim. I'll make it same as the front then.

  • Thought it would be the rims that dictate max spoke tension

Not necessarily. Tune hubs have a maximum spoke tension of 1100N.

  • Good to know!

  • I need a pair of rims for my da 7900 hubs,
which means they have to be 16 front and 20 rear, as I want them to be relatively inexpensive low profile alu I guess I should go wide to limit the flex, I will ride 28mm tires on them anyway. Any suggestions?

  • The answer is Kinlin XR31. It always is 🙂

You might have to hunt around for 16H, they exist but not everybody stocks them.

  • I know this is a bit much to ask.. is there an alternative in silver? Yes function>aestethic but I love me some silver rims

  • Quick SSCX wheel question...

Should a 24h front 28h rear wheelset with Kinlin XR22 rims be ok for some off-road riding, mainly bridleway type stuff, and possibly the odd CX race?

  • alternative in silver?

You could try the Kinlin XR31

  • Can I please have a link to them in silver? I couldn't find anything..

  • And just to jump on that request: Silver and 18 holes?

  • You'll probably need to look quite hard yourself, they exist but no one stocks them because hardly anyone wants to buy them.

  • Depends what you weigh and how you ride. If you're light and skilful, they'll be fine. If you're heavy and clumsy, XR22 might be a little delicate.

  • as above, should be okay if you are not too heavy.
I have recently gone for kinlin xr31 28h 28h for a rim brake cx / off-road build, seem fine. spoke pattern is also an important factor.
as a reference i have been riding 24h 24h disc wheels (hope / stans type) for ages, never a problem

  • Ah, ok, but .. Hunt makes an aero alu wheelset, problem is 20h is as low as they go and bikeradar puts waiting list as the only con. Are we defo sure that kinlin have the xr31 in silver polished?
Edit: the Hunt rims are silver btw

  • Hunt make those wheelsets with XR31Ts. I've no idea if kinlin have them, but they have made them at some point and someone might have one for sale if you look around.

  • Maybe polish up a black one if you can find one.

  • Kinlin just send over whatever suppliers in the Uk ask for. If I wanted to order 100x 16h kinlin xr31 in anodised pink or camo that’s what I’d get.

As already mentioned it’s prob just that no one is buying what you’re after here so it’s hard to find.

  • Or just buy a 32h rim and skip every other hole. Lighter innit.
