  • Shit about to go wild in USA ?

Now that people know even more what to do to take justice in their own hand.

  • Every fruitloop in the land emboldened.

  • Might come a time soon when you’re no longer a ‘patriot’ unless you’ve shot someone…

So it’s self-defence now if you’ve help provoke the violence in the first place? What a complete mess.

  • The apologists on here will be delighted.

  • sounds about white.

  • Lol

If by apologists, you mean people who can understand a legal argument, yeah. They'll all be jumping for joy.

  • I do have to say, having gone down a wormhole earlier in the week, I can see how it is seen as self defence - at least the first. The second I don't know enough about the laws. I don't agree, but them the rules in the parts of the USA.

  • Of course

  • That kid is made for life.

  • from my reading on this case, it seems the verdict was legally correct but the social implications from the verdict are fucking awful.

this is worth a read, imo

    (note the dates)

  • In this country until the 1990s a wife was deemed to consent to sex by virtue of agreeing to marriage. Effectively meaning a husband couldn't rape their wife.

Understanding that legal position doesn't make you an advocate for rape, or even supportive of it.

What is clearly fucked up in the KR case is that the combination of right to bare arms and self defence has ended up in a ridiculous state of affairs where people can take close to military hardware into a highly tense situation and fire at will. Folks in favour of that position need to have a word with themselves and think about the social benefits of this.

  • where people

    Children.

Where fucking children can take close to military hardware into a highly tense situation and fire at will.

Still, on the bright side, he's got a successful career in law enforcement ahead of him. I mean, he's already got a head start on the consequence-free killing part.

  • Good read thanks

  • Charlie "I'm a naughty Tory" Elphicke is now unable to find a job and claiming universal credit.

He's apparently finding that benefits don't pay enough to cover living costs in addition to the court costs he got from his sexual assaults.

    He also:

Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices

0 votes for, 5 votes against, in 2013. Comparable Conservative MPs consistently voted against (6 votes, in 2013).

    Oh.

  • Thought experiment for those “ah actually this was a legal self defence textbook case your honour” people here

Imagine Rittenhouse was not white but black. Now tell me whether you think his defence would have flown and he would have walked free.

If you think he would you are deluded to the point of no return, you should turn in your brain to the authorities.

  • That’s a story to put a smile on my face, sex pest Tory falls on hard times.

  • People of colour (or poor people) not being afforded justice doesn't mean that others shouldn't be.

But yes, it's unlikely. Then again OJ had enough money to get off. Fwiw my opinion on that is while he almost definitely did it, the case was handled so badly that I don't think a right minded jury could have convicted.

It's a moot point anyway because had he been black he would likely have been shot by the police at the time, rather than allowed to walk away and wait at home until his mum convinced him to turn himself in. And even if he'd made survived he'd of likely been advised to make a plea deal.

  • For me his actual trial and it's result isn't the important thing - and I think the focus that it has had gets in the way of all of the elements around it that are fucking rotten to the core.

  • Children

    Good point.

I was originally going to expand it to include people who don't even have the legal right to bare arms, but it felt like it was already a bit long winded.

  • I hope this isn't aimed at me. Of course it wouldn't have flown, America is institutionally racist.

I think the villain is the system, not KR.

  • No, pretty sure KR is very much the villain here.

  • Would reccomend reading the article I posted

He's guilty of having probably having shitty political opinions and having made poor choices but imo the self defence argument is pretty straight forward and if the political context was stripped away I don't think we'd be having this discussion

  • And back on Planet Earth the motherfucker took an AR-15 to a different town to 'defend' business owners (nobody fucking asked for their help notwithstanding) from people protesting the shooting of a Black man.

  • right to bare arms

Just a quick FYI, it's "bear arms" not "bare".

Having "the right to bare arms" means you are OK wearing just a vest!

  • The triathlete amendment.
