Not necessarily, at some point you will break even with a more efficient car and it may be sooner than you think. https://youtu.be/L2IKCdnzl5k

And then the UK government sends 10 soldiers to help Poland... sigh :/
But unfortunately very little can be done, bar donate to relevant charities or perhaps get flight routes banned via pressure on airlines?

Really interesting discussion about SUVs. What are peoples thoughts on camper vans? Especially the deluge of VW Transporters.
They must weigh a couple of tonnes when kitted out. And I bet economically they provide close to zero to the destination economy. Probably the sort of people who even bring their own milk with them.

Don't forget the Mercedes ones too.

Isn't that what the on-board refrigerator is for?

Guess they're bought secondhand a lot more and mainly used for occasional longer journeys, plus all the hemp clothing and joss stick burning has to offset something.

Who in their right mind would own a car when you could just use an app and have a kip in the back?
Thought of this thread when I picked up my car-share car tonight to find someone had vommed in the passenger footwell and left it with 6 miles of fuel.

Future cars will drive themselves to the nearest central hub for recharging and devomming.

Other than flying, these things have to be the most wasteful, antisocial way of traveling. Most of the UK has permanent infrastructure for accommodation: water, power, shelter. Burning fuel to carry this with you for no reason is mind-blowing. Just so you can go somewhere slightly more remote / unspoiled and fuck it up.
A recent trip to the Isle of Arran really brought this home, normally quiet single track roads rammed with the things, strewn with roadkill, birdsong drowned out, small villages and towns gridlocked. Ugh.

As a frequent visitor to rural rural Scotland for work I agree fuck them and the Instagram cunts who have them.
Also fuck Nicola Sturgeon for encouraging it.

Ha ha! That's awful.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the original concept of SUVs was to appeal to "people who are not confident in their driving and want to be sure they come off best in an accident".
I also have a theory that a big part of the appeal of super-sized cars is so that overweight people* don't have to face how big they are.
The best way to reduce SUV use IMO is to for these two comments to go viral and become the received wisdom about SUV drivers.
(* I am overweight, these are my people)

Don't forget the overcompensating for perceived phallic deficiency.

It’s easy to stereotype. I know three couples who drive a Range Rover, none of them could be described as overweight, the common denominator in my opinion is their aspiring to an OK Magazine celebrity lifestyle funded on easy credit. That’s my stereotyping done for the evening.

Doesn't matter if it's true or not, it just needs to become embedded in the public consciousness that SUVs are for fat people who can't drive.

My dad's got the really, really fast range rover, like silly fast, daft bastard does occasionally work on farms but he uses the big ol' transit full of tools for that.

At least the car sharing aspect is helpful.

Does this include the crew in Chelsea, Dulwich and central London in their Overfinch/Brabus
