  • So since buying a 'nice' acoustic guitar that really does it all for me, I've been thinking about the electric. I've got a PRS SE EG from 2004 which I bought new, and it's the only one I've ever owned. It's 'fine', and was nicer than the equivalent Squiers etc at the time, but I could definitely be tempted to change to something that feels a bit more 'me' if I can get enough for it.

Any ideas what it's worth? Generally good condition, very little wear. I've checked Reverb/eBay but there don't seem to be many around/they don't seem very trustworthy prices.

  • There's one on Reverb at the moment for €650. They're actually rather desirable and very good guitars, I'd want to have my mind made up about the replacement before I'd sell that one...
Usually I'd argue against it but it could be worth taking it into your local shops to see what they'd give you for a trade in and try out some Telecasters while you're there?

If you decide to sell it privately I'd absolutely recommend picking up a Japanese Telecaster, they're incredibly well built, better than Mexican and pretty much on par with American but with lower prices.

  • Quick qualifier on CIJ Fenders. They can be a strange mix - extremely high quality build and finish (at least as good as US made), but with mediocre electronic components, wiring and pickups. My CIJ Jazz Bass is as nice a bass as any I’ve ever held, but could certainly do with a new wiring harness. I’ve already upgraded the pickups.

This is a common theme with other people I know who’ve had CIJ Fenders - a few sensible electronic upgrades makes them unbeatable.
