  • My local park had the addition of an abandoned shopping trolley.
Bosco lost his shit and was barking furiously at it, refusing to approach it, I had to go and basically sit on it for him to relax enough to walk by it.

Next day it was further down and upside down, repeat of the previous experience.

Last time I saw it, someone had put it in the bin.

  • Thanks for the update, hope she is not too traumatised and recovers as you said.

  • Otto is like that but with snowmen!

  • Benny is like that with everything.

  • Schoolkid zoomed up to me on my morning walk this morning, hopped off his bike and asked if he could pat my dog. Little legend. Daisy loved it. Saw him do it to the next dogwalker down the road too

  • Haha, that photo is amazing

  • has anyone got recommendations for good mentally stimulating stuff? We do some training, but I feel I need some inspiration.

  • Another dog

  • We've got the slidey toy things to put treats in but what's worked best is a ball with holes in the side that she has to knock around to get food out of, especially if you chunk the food so it rarely ever comes out. That and literally just wrapping a treat in a large blanket, she really struggles to dig it out, it's great.

  • this is my plan when we move
    +Sumo thanks good ideas

I do want to do more training and agility but at 7 months he's quite bolshy

  • We hide treats in boxes.
Sometimes taped up egg cartons with a few pup snacks can entertain him for a while.

Gets him to think about stuff.

  • This makes a good point that I should work on his scenting. He should be able to, but isn't super right now. Maybe I need some smelly meats.

  • Boxes inside boxes. Bits of paper inside the boxes. Treats/kibble in the bits of paper. Sometimes do this with Vinbo's breakfast if we've got a busy morning.

We got a Kong Stuff-a-ball last week – that keeps him entertained for a while. Not used it in yonks but snuffle mats are also pretty good. And a good ol' frankentoy (made by joining random toys together to make new ones).

  • I tried a scent work class with our cocker which was fun and really tires them out.

We also did a daily online video class with an infuriatingly perky couple which had some fun stuff in it. They’re called Absolute Dogs.

We send ours to a daycare place once a week which is a luxury but when you’ve got two high energy dogs, it’s worth it to have them come home knackered and sleep.

  • Its not really his energy that's an issue, I can walk him enough, for something that's 7 months. More i just want to be a good dog parent and give him intersting stuff to do. I do send him yo a day care, where he goes to a guys house with 20 other dogs and I get a bazillion videos of him going mental with his friends - great for him to learn socialisation.
I'll look up a scent course or some guide online, would be fun.

    Thanks +wools

I am lucky, he's super chill and not an issue. He will amuse himself mostly or sleep. Just looking for fun stuff for him.

    I am very jealous.

  • Yeah I do feel very lucky. I can leave him at home and he's never destroyed anything. He will occasionally suck on a shoe or fall asleep on my stolen clothes.
He does like to nibble and will nibble me, but is easy to redirect with play, training or a treat.
He current criminal activity extends to climbing on my bed and snuggling up!

He did shit on one of my wife's cushions once on a chair, he was 2 months old. But that was just funny.

  • Is that the cushion he shat on? Nice luxurious deep pile by the looks of it.

  • It is indeed.

  • Having those interesting games etc are great on days when it’s hammering it down and don’t fancy an hour long walk.

Having two dogs is also great because they have a constant source of amusement.
