I just took a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker and '59 out of it to strip off the bad respray. It's actually a proper nice guitar to play!
Edit: I've ordered new tuners (one was broken, got some Schaller F-Style 70s on the way) and a bridge for it (wish.com providing the goods for a big beefy Badass-esque offering) and I'm going to reassemble and play it for a bit before making any hasty decision on refinishing...
