I bought an axle mount and knocked this up for exactly the same reason.
Kind of expensive (~£70 for the aluminium and brackets) but am sure something similar could be done much cheaper.

RCC Wahoo deals
What do they offer? Is it worth joining to get a cheaper Wahoo? Is it worth getting an existing RCC member to buy a Wahoo?

Bought those softer feet for the kickr and the small amount of extra movement meant the front wheel knocked against the bannister rods. Was annoying enough to do something about it.

Interesting solution, I was thinking of doing something similar but out of plywood, and have a shelf come up to support the laptop with a lower shelf where to hide the fan. Any reason you went with AL profiles? Other questions: Do you need/use that vertical adjustability you have there? Any vertical slipping? Any reason for having the base parallel to the bike rather than perpendicular?
-
• #4208
Alu profile cos it looks good and is reconfigurable. Also adjustable but that hasn't been necessary. Keep checking everything is soild (paranoia) and not had to tighten anything yet.
The bottom needs some length parallel to the bike or there'd be nothing to stop it collapsing. I have no proper engineering skills so just went with what looked right.

I've almost worn through my stash of old road tyres - what's the best "wheel on" turbo tyre that isn't a complete bastard to install/remove?
-
• #4210
Could you get a cheap dedicated rear wheel to prevent having to remove the tyre?
I've had a red conti (sorry) trainer tyre on an old shimano rs10 wheel for years. The tyre must be about 13 years old now, it's starting to split a little on the edges, but keeps on rolling. -

"wheel on"
wow 2013 called!
-
• #4212
I think you'll find my Computrainer has been around a lot longer than that, noob.
-
• #4213
Hard no on more wheels. It basically is just on the turbo so it's not a big deal
"Tacx is very easy to fit. Grupetto blue too." sounds like a winner.
-
• #4214
Is this on a direct drive turbo? That's my case, hence why I'd have the support orthogonal to the bike for better side to side stiffness.
-
• #4215
Does it want to talk to me too?
-
• #4216
Yeah, Kickr. The accessory feet I got deliberately allow more lateral movement at the rear so it wouldn't make sense to restrict it at the front.
I printed some feet for the front end - can just see them in the second photo. Primarily to prevent the mat from getting torn up but I gave them a radius so it rolls slightly easier.

Anyone recommend other systems (like sufferfest but not!) that work on Apple TV? I know zwift does but I'm not the biggest fan - would prefer to try something else but don't want to have to link iPad / phone to the turbo, apple TV works better and with less faff...
Find it v annoying that they did all the wahoo systm stuff and didn't make it apple TV compatible

I’ve got Fulgaz on the Apple TV. Works well

Certainly is!

Ooh not heard of that - cheers, will check out

This may seem like a real dumb question and I'm sorry if it's been asked before. A Kickr comes with an 11sp cassette. I have 12 speed Campag. I do not want to purchase a new FHB and cassette just for trainer use. If I use ERG mode, I don't need to shift, right? I don't really recall but I don't think I ever shifted when I used to have a Kickr with ERG mode? Therefore, I can just use the 11sp Shimano cassette, riiiiiight? Like I'm not gonna die?
Edit: Wahoo's site says don't shift in ERG mode. So yeah, I'm all gravy, right?

Yes
Run your chain straight. I've had mine on the same cog for ages. Shifted it yesterday just because I felt bad for that one cog and wanted to give it a rest :)
-
• #4224
btw it comes with a SunRace 11sp cassette, not really "Shimano" as they say (but spline-wise its Shimano compatible yeah...)
-
• #4225
Not that it matters but I'm pretty sure mine came with a Shimano cassette.
Maybe they changed what they shipped during the great Shimano Drought of 2020
Has anyone tried using a turbo upstairs (bedroom/attic)?
Considering using ours in the attic, but concerned about noise vibration. Any suggestions on a mat / other system to reduce the noise?
