  • Forgive me for being a dolt, but is there a consensus on how to fix these things to a bag so they don't come off? The 'ladder sling' things that come with it? The way they advise to fit these in the instructions.....is total fucking nonsense?!!

  • Clip one of the red bits to a key ring with a little carabiner thing, or zip ties if you don't need to take it off (zip ties solve anything).

I couldn't get it secure on a bag with the "fabric clips" or whatever the instructions call the red end bits.

  • carabiner is great idea, cheers

  • I had similar trouble with them, I'd clip them on my bag to find, when I got home, that the tube had popped out of one end basically turning it off.

  • I've never had this problem of tube slippage, but mine has died after a day of walking in the Scottish Highland rain with it still on my bag :(

  • First ride this morning with the Fibre Flare on my backpack, and I got to work to find it hanging on by just one end - these things needs a better method of securing them!!! - am going to try and put a two small rings under the 'fabric clip' and then slide one end of a carabiner onto that (like a key onto a key ring) then the other end to the clips on the bag

The way they suggest fitting one to a jersey is just plain crazy!

  • Anyone managed to resurrect one of these things? Mine's suddenly gone all Lynchman and can't see any obvious way of fixing..

  • wait a couple of days, it'll come back to life.

  • Bit of a dredge, anybody know of something similar out in the market today? Perhaps an AliX special? I quite liked my fibre flare and it worked well until I lost it a few years ago...

  • It's worth keeping an eye on eBay. From time to time someone seems to pop up with a load of old stock and they're usually quite cheap. I also love my Fibre Flares but they really need a lot of looking after. It's a shame they never addressed the design issues with them.

Mine live on my bag as it's got loops in just the right place, but I always make sure I pop the caps open and dry them out if they get wet. Otherwise they very quickly corrode away inside.

  • Good intel on eBay, will keep an eye out. I used mine in the same way on a very similar Deuter backpack and another bag where it also fit just right. Largely a fair weather cyclist so corrosion wasn't really an issue for me.
