The A10 was closed so no following car, but he did have a guy riding with / behind him, as a spare bike if needed. That meant no timekeepers. When they got there they asked those of us who were there if we could confirm the time and took email addresses so they can be in touch.
@hippy got a photo of him crossing the line so he will have the exact time from that.
The trike reference was Ralph Dadswell, who holds the trike record. Half of the tandem record crew from last year was also there (but I think he just missed the arrivee).
When I got there, after my pub had closed, Judith and Dave M were already there. Greg Melia came on a Brompton, Ralph, then hippy rocked up in short sleeves about 5 minutes before he crossed.
It was pretty tense while we were waiting, following the tracker. He looked like he just about had it, but things can go wrong. 6 minutes is like 2 miles out of nearly 400, so hardly anything.
When he finished he came over and chatted (first thing he said was to thank us for coming out), then after a minute his legs went and he had a sit down on the pavement - all the glamour of record breaking!
So he rolled in at 11:42 with 6 minutes to spare.
