  • Don't know too much about the media player individual units. Check out DJCity and Digital DJ Tips on YouTube for vids - they are my go to. Couldn't find a DJCity video on the 850, but these XDJ -700 look good and he says they can work as controllers in the intro...

  • Awesome, thank you so much!

This video explained it perfectly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXRqykdeHaY

  • Turns out it was right under my nose the whole time. The Traktor Kontrol X1

This + a soundcar with two outputs does everything I need for about £250. Thought I'd be close to £1000 out of pocket for a while but this seems like a great starting point without breaking the bank

  • Nice one. Let us know how you get on.

After playing out on Pioneer kit last night I realise I just need to get fully onto it.

I want to eventually aim for a four channel set up, likely XDJ1000mk2, 1210s and DJM900Nexus2.

Does anyone have a set up like this? I’m keen to figure out some options for space. Current set up is on a purpose bit of furniture that isn’t wide enough for all that gear. I might end up screwing a wider board on top of it, or maybe I need to get something new entirely. The space either side is being reclaimed - getting rid of the floor standers - so basically have the width of that wall to work with.

  • I am in a similar situation, trying to get my gear set up again. I have two 1210's and limited space, I could really do with a decent slimline mixer. I have a perfect place but my wife is not keen! I need my boys to move out so that I can reclaim a bedroom!

I was thinking of screwing a larger piece of wood onto an existing piece of furniture as an interim solution.

  • Cdj’s on stands, overhanging the decks?

  • Never sure how ergonomic that will be, but these do look good. Definitely worth considering.

  • Anyone able to recommend a decent slim mixer?

  • Also might be able to pick up a decent condition 2nd hand Vestax PMC-06. They’re tough but I’d always be a bit wary of old second hand mixers and knackered faders.

  • I have this and really like it. it's 2+2 inputs so you can plug in 2 cdjs + 2 decks and mix between all

  • Having done a lot of YouTube research and looked at bundle prices etc I think my aim is a bit more conservative: XDJ-700s and DJM-750mk2. Has anyone used either and have any strong feelings about them? Looks to be coming in at around the £2.2k mark, so if I can get it under £2k for Black Friday that might be the point to take the plunge.

  • Is the lack of mid range knob for each channel actually an issue? Very tempted on one of these…

  • I’d say absolutely not.

  • I have an X1 MK1 that's sat in a cupboard for a long time if anyone wants cheap.

  • Good. Do I understand it correctly that I can hook in 2 cdj's and 2 decks on the 2 channel mixer and swap between the inputs for each channel on the little button above the high pass filter?

  • Yes and on the back you can also toggle the phono channel between phono/line input too so you can have four line level inputs if required

Added pic of back of mixer, the phono inputs here are covered with some shortcircuit
plates you get in a little bag to stop any humming if not used.

  • Still umming and ahhing over how to layout a four channel set up - XDJs and 1210s.

Now I’ve given it some thought, I’m more than likely to just be mixing the XDJs together and vinyl together. It’s super unlikely that I can see myself switching between vinyl and digital. At most probably one or two vinyl records in a digital set and vice versa.

Whereas I was just assuming I’d set everything up with the XDJs either side of the mixer and the 1210s on the outside, I think this is going to be annoying when mixing vinyl sets - the extra distance to move to do pitch adjustments is going to be annoying. This is slightly less of an issue having the XDJs on the outside.

I’ve never actually mixed with digital decks up on a shelf - does that work out alright?

I think I’m down to doing that, or having the XDJs next to the mixer and just unplugging them and putting them to one side and bringing the 1210s inwards when mixing vinyl.

I’ve also decided to go for XDJ-700s and a DJM-450. Although higher spec stuff is nice, I really don’t want to be sinking multiple grands into it. Should be able to pick up a bundle for ~1.7k.

  • Traded in the Prime GO. It was great while it lasted, but I can't deal with managing two libraries and Rekordbox is just far nicer to use. Hopefully this should be here by next week. Now I need to urgently figure out space for it all!

  • Still here, still sticking with vinyl https://www.mixcloud.com/LostField/untitled/
