  • Drill something like a 3 mm hole and then use an easy out, screw extractor

  • That little bit sticking out at 8 o'clock should give you summat to turn against, if it'll move, in may be easier.

  • Drill something like a 3 mm hole

You could have stopped there. If it's not seized and in a through hole, the drill will drive it through in preference to cutting it.

  • Thanks Tester.

Ultimately decided on a replacement light as the driver was 50% of the cost and not guaranteed to fit in the space, or indeed be the actual cause of the flashing

  • Just got charged vehicle tax by the DVLA. It's the second year of ownership, but the amount is for a first payment and it says as much on the bank statement.

What's the process for challenging this?

  • Can anyone help ID this brand logo please?

  • I’m looking for some rubber bungs to replace the bolts in a bike as they’ll rarely be used. Is this a product that exists? Link or product name? Cheers

  • Can anyone tell me what this type of garment repair is called? These are very old repairs which have been stitch-reinforced, presumably by hand. Front and back of the fabric shown in the pics.

I need to get a couple of similar repairs done, which look appropriate on a 45 year old garment. Is that something I can get done at a typical high street dry cleaners/repairs/alterations shop, or do I need to go somewhere more specialised than that?

  • Maybe look for nylon hole plugs or nylon bolts.

  • nylon bolts

Generally this for blanking off unused threaded holes.

  • I’ve noticed quite a few vehicle number plates seem to have a hazy layer sitting on top. I did a quick google and it seems there is a product that you overlay onto your plate that obscures it from flash and anpr cameras. Is this a very common thing that drivers use? Would you get a slap on the wrists if caught or is it a more serious offence?

  • the 2 small bolts that go through this small Garmin mount to connect it to the larger arm and accompanying nuts. What size are they and where can I get them from including both nut and bolt?

(this is a random stock photo and doesn't appear to include the nuts otherwise I would just order this. for illustrative purposes only)

  • I'm pretty sure it is an offence but drivers get away with so much that they clearly think the chances of getting pulled on this are minimal

  • In theory it is a fine of up to £1000 but £100 is more normal, if ever caught. There are proposals to change it to 3 points which might be more of a deterrent but still requires getting caught.

Threads will be M3, you can get M3 countersunk machine screws and any kind of matching nuts from your favourite fastener shop. My favourite is https://www.accu.co.uk/en/158-countersunk-screws

  • On the subject of number plates. I drove late at night the other day and noticed a lot of number plate lights were fitted with really bright LEDs.

    What's the deal with this?

I've never had a number plate light blow, and can't recall my folks have one go. So I assume this is a voluntary mod. But why bother?

  • Normal bulb is 6w led is 1w maybe they are cyclists going fir marginal gains?

  • You have to remember that some people literally have nothing better to do. Think about mindset of someone who has come to the conclusion that of all the things going on in my life, I really must change the number plate lights on my car to some LED ones off eBay. They are basic people with basic lives, and nothing going on. On car forums, they even have discussions about which ones are the best ones.

  • Am I better off getting anodised bottle cage bolts and valve caps that are almost the same colour but from different brands, or should I get different but complimentary colours?

  • I tend to change incandescent to led on my motorbikes (in f it’s safe) they are far more reliable
