Made the poor decision to ride back into London via Hook. Both lanes bumper to bumper for a mile or so queuing to get into the petrol station on Hook roundabout.

I’m going to go for a run round the local petrol stations (as I need a route for my 5km and I could also do with some petrol). Fun eh?

Nationalise it
The idea of the government taking over all information technology is terrifying.

Honestly. Why can't all the young people do it instead of complaining about their student debt?
When I was young I'd of loved to farm and slaughter turkeys in the run up to Xmas instead of having to go out and get drunk after work.

Lol, working at the poultry packer was one of the main studenty jobs in the town I grew up in, I avoided it by being a shelf stacker but lots didn't although the money was decent for a teenager

For me/my mates it was restaurants/bars then office admin.
Not that I think there's anything wrong with it, but it's ridiculous to think you can suddenly magic up a workforce for short term work.

Crickey, over half of petrol stations with no fuel now
https://www.ft.com/content/7e79e4a8-7a1e-4b2c-8f81-cbf4e9969e28Brian Madderson, chair of the Petrol Retailers Association, a trade body, said a survey of members on Sunday indicated 50 to 85 per cent of all independent service stations had now run dry, excluding motorway forecourts and some supermarket sites that have been prioritised by oil companies.

I tried turkey plucking once. Grim. Trying not to tear the skin, birds still shitting whilst hanging... The smell... Ugh. After an hour I was done and just walked out.
-
• #66570
It's all fine. The army being mobilised to help supply the 90% empty forecourts is completely normal.

Stop telling people it's nice over here! We've been keeping up the facade of it being full of drunks and raining everyday to keep people away ;)
Hope you're enjoying your stay though, where are you staying? Took my in-laws on a week-long trip all around the island, they absolutely loved it

That Wiki story is amazing.
“It was beyond comical, it got to the point where every human being in a three-block radius was working for one of the intelligence services — whether they were street sweepers or police officers or security guards.”

Friend in Berlin was unable to vote as they'd run out of ballot papers when he went. Not sure on scale of the issue but I'd be less than impressed if that happened to me here...

Yeh is a crazy story, can't believe they were planning pulling it off in London
