    One of them. I know many people don't really take it seriously, but the 2019 GE result and the EHRC report - where Labour were found legally responsible for unlawful discrimination against Jews - were both potentially existential moments for the Labour Party. It's quite understandable that the party would take steps to prevent something like that from happening again.

    I am inclined to agree with aggi that no-one outside the party gives a fuck. I don't think anyone outside the party cares about party democracy. But I do think it's a crucial first step in becoming electable again. The members have an outsize voice and they've gotten used to being thrown red meat over the last five or six years. But Labour only gets into power where the various voices within it are balanced. This strikes me as being a good way back to balance.
