The MT500 stuff is, in my opinion, well worth the money if you are going to be somewhere wet- I wear mine all winter (with MT500 waterproof overshoes) and stay perfectly dry. But- if you doubt you will use them then it’s a lot of money.
I’ve spent a month in Scotland this year and it’s been glorious sunshine the whole time. YMMV.

YMMV
Oh yes it will.

I know I have a lot of bikes/parts here but I'm not sure I qualify as a shop yet.
-
• #181
Yeah, but the beauty of never having used any, is that they're all better than nothing :)
-
• #182
Not true. If they are a boil in the bag type of garment then not wearing them would be better.

Touring not racing so quite easy to ride slower. Also, they still remove the need to clean off all the trail muck before getting into a sleeping bag so still better than wearing only shorts when it's wet and gross.

Sure but when at 4000m and storm you'll wish you didn't cheap out.
Unless one cheap pair for now and proper pair for racing. -

Yeah, my problem is never having used any, I don't really know what I'm looking for and I don't really fancy dropping almost £200 for a week long tour in Scotland if they turn out to be a bit shit or don't fit or whatever.

I've got a couple of pairs of medium MT500 and one pair of the Humvee that you're welcome to try on. Happy for you to borrow the Humvee as I doubt I'll use them.

Madison DTE for £85 which seems a much more reasonable price than the Endura and they seem to get good reviews.

"Medium". Thanks but not a chance. I might JUST be able to get a Large over my thighs.

MT500s now £135 vs. pair of Madison DTE for £85
BR didn't like the MT500s so I think I'll go with the DTEs (at least for a first pair)

Interesting- I wonder if I have v1.

I've ordered the 85 quid DTE. These are also an older model, with press-studs rather than a ratchet buckle arrangement. If we ever actually make it to Scotland at least they should get well tested.

Anyone got a direct comparison between MT500 spray trousers versus the full Waterproof ones? I'm guess spray are a little more breathable, a little less waterproof.

I don't know what clubs you're going to, but can I come along next time?

I checked which version my Endura MT500 waterproof trousers were, they're the v2 and I stand by my opinion of them - I wore mine in conditions that literally sanded the pigment off my saddle but they never once let water in. I don't recognise the performance that the Bike Radar reviewer described.

That's good to know, that BR review put me of a bit but Enduras response at the bottom seems to suggest that they might be a duff pair and they would exchange if they performed like that. Figure it's a decent investment when you live in the wettest city in the UK, moreso than anything that will go on the bike.

Yeah I am not sure you can complain a zip lets water in when you spray a hose at it. But the wetting out thing is an issue and it's due to C0 DWR and not C6, ie PFC free. If you want 100% legit waterproof you need to be going with Goretex Pro and a C6 DWR.
After presenting our findings to Endura, it told us that the fabric’s new PFC-free eco-credentials mean its waterproof material may wet-out
If doing TD you'll want some good ones...
