  • Hello cargo bike hive mind

Do any shops offer Bullitt to e-Bullitt conversions as a service?

    Thanks

  • On my douze I added some Ergon grips with little bar ends, that also helps get a bit more forward and stretch out sometimes

  • you made your own box tho, thats cheating

  • Did you build that box yourself? It's very nice. A bespoke wooden box is clearly more versatile and attractive than the plastic thing on my UA.

My long term plan was to build a wooden frame that would receive my toolbox, and also have a strategic flat surface for sheet material, furniture or whatever else that was bigger than the load area and could sit over the front wheel.

I'll say one thing for plastic/ metal box over timber though, it lasts for ever. The ply platform on my 2 year old trailer is already disintegrating.

I forgot to mention the best thing about my new bike though which is that I picked it up for £3150, it's in great condition, and these start as around 5k.

  • I did a pm.

I am going to go with besbikeI think.

My other option was London green, but they're a bit pricey.

  • I've just realised I need a box or some side panels....but £500 seems fairly fucking ££££ to me.

  • Don't think there are.. i'm happy to help you install a bafang though

  • This is a great box, can you post the plans for it?

edit. just looked through the thread, it's a Holde box.. looks great. I'd like to make a version out of plastic sheet, i wonder if the cost of getting someone to CNC all the parts would be the same cost as the $400 for the holde box

  • my cargo box is 24 inches wide on the inside, has a seat with seat belts, and can take actual 200 bricks thrown at it and keep laughing. I even built a windshield for it for winter and cold rain.

That's impressive, I'm sure you could sell plans or a kit version of your setup -- or perhaps put the plans out there as open-source.

  • Not quite the same but there's this modular rack for the omnium which you can buy but plans are here. looks really interesting.

  • Cube's are such a mixed bag, some models are absolutely fine, good spec kit for the price and no surprises. Others are a living nightmare, plastic cable guides that break every time you look at them, non existant warranty (I have THREE new Cube Hybrid's/mtb that I did not sell to them, other shops did, and have just ignored the customer, because Cube distributor ignores them) and don't work as the gear cable stops are completely sub standard. One some we can work it around by running full length outer inside the frame, on others its only possible to zip tie the outer cables to the frame (ugly as fuck, not acceptable IMO on a new bike) and change the front mech to a side swing MTB job in order for it to vaguely work.
Never seen one of their cargo bikes, the pricing for a double battery bosch cargo setup is incredible, I literally cannot see anything coming close to that in terms of price, but I hope that the quality of the little things (cable stops, handle bar raising solution, steering arm stuff) is actually useable and not junk.

Local shop to use sold a business/commerical user a Ridgeback cargo bike (looks like a Bullitt), 4 months already replaced... Freehub, freehub and then rear wheel entirely, front wheel, front fork headset bearings (both), steering gear lower headset bearing, pedals, stem (creaks like a mother). Its done 800 miles in 4 months which is low use as well.
So yeah, gentle family use probably OK, but not for commercial or heavy use. Shop he got it from disowned the customer within the 1st month as it was commercial use and stuff was already starting to fail.

Goes for all things, would only buy from someone you know is sound, or you can at least get at. Buying online from some of the larger companies (many are absolutely sound btw!) means you have bought at distance/large retailer problems when it comes to what should and shouldn't be warrantied.

  • These often creak. Suggest anyone that gets this type of adjustable ahead/quill stem hybrid things take them apart when its new and apply very high pressure grease (lots of Moly in it) to all the contact surfaces. Then use a mild thread lock on the bolts that hold the adjusters together and set to the desired height before it sets. They often sound like a nasty BB, creaky clicky graunching sound when any load put on them.

  • These off the shelf things are useless. Look, I built my own solution using only my time, skills, tools, motivation. Why doesn't everyone just do what I did as its perfect for me!?!

  • And anyway, new bullitts are £££££ too

  • To set the record straight, the box is of the shelf here in states I suppose it may not be readily available over seas.

  • Benno Boost E is working well for us

Do you share this with a partner and if so what’s the height differential? I am always skeptical of the one size fits all claims on a lot of these bikes.

  • Yes we share this and many many Bromptons...

    She is 5’8? And I’m 6’1

I’m slightly shorter in the leg for my height so our upper body is not too far off the same. We drop the saddle about 50mm for her and this gives a great relaxed position.

We actually changed from the OE stem, can’t remember the lengths.

You can easily add things like an easy up stem or Tern GSD style stem to make quite a big change without any hassle!

  • Up in Edinburgh one of the local shops has just got hold of the Raleigh Stride 2, which is a rebadged Batavus Fier 2. Looks pretty decent and maybe actually in stock?

    • Bosch Cargoline 85Nm motor, with 500Wh battery and Purion display
    • Enviolo hub.
    • Magura disc brakes.
    • Lights, lock, mudguards, chain case, stand.
    • Huge cargo bay with double seat and belts as standard. Full accessories available: extra seats, canopies, the lot!
      .
      £4395.

  • Well priced.

  • pretty decent, what the accessories (canopy/rain cover) like? Take note @revenant.

  • not sure - must be pics around on the Raleigh site?

  • Out of curiosity, what made you go the Benno Boost way rather than Tern GSD?

  • Only thing I’m not stoked on is the envolio hub! But Ben @ kinetics Glasgow is a whizz with then I think
