Makes me very glad I kept mine, was seriously thinking about selling them before leaving the UK...

It's good they brought them back into production although they have kind of messed up by coming with so many different models. Before it was just the one you had to have. It's like the iphone thing I suppose.

I only kept them cuz they weren't worth selling, they were going for less than two hundred quid each at one point...

I used to use my sister's silver 1200s before I got my own 1210s... Had a funny little gig in a pub in Chelsea in the late 90s and made the cash to buy my own in no time, such easy money...

I got my pair of 1210's 14 years ago for £250 with a box of roughly 50 contemporary 12". I thought I might have scored a bargain at the time.

I sold mine for something like 500 quid with a mixer. Biggest mistake of my adult life!

I’m old enough to remember when the price for new ones (grey market, Euro plugs only) on Tottenham Court Road was £500/pair and they stayed that price for about 10 years! £100 on a Phonic MRT-60 and you were away.

Anyone got experience with Technics SL-1400's? not got a big budget for some decks but one has come up for reasonable moneys I think

I am in the process of setting up my two 1210's again after many years. I cannot remember what mixer or amp I used to use. The mixer was a cheapo and the amp a Sony that I knicked off of my dad.

How are you all set up? Mixer with phono stage or separate phono stages into a mixer and into an amp...or something else?

Easiest way to do it... Plug and play!

Try and get one with a digital out that you can record from and maybe integration into a digital system like Rekordbox or Traktor. If you're going to have them together then it would be a good idea to be able to record mixes and vinyl. Maybe even something with usb recording option.

Don’t think you need a phono stage with a DJ mixer as they’ll have preamps built in. Apparently Allen & Heath is known for the quality of its preamps - I bought a xone32 off someone who got it just for that and never used it to mix.

I’m using an old Technics integrated amp and am set up with an old Pioneer CD separate, line-in to a minijack for hooking up a phone/ipod etc and a line-in from the PC.

As Airhead points out, it’s worth thinking about digital as you can get mixers and amps with USB outs and get a better quality connection into/out of your PC/laptop.

Are you spinning control vinyl? Are you already using those management programmes that Airhead mentions? I wish I’d thought a bit more about how to organise my digital files and what file types to use before I started ripping all my CDs last year. I really like using Rekordbox.

I haven't look at those systems. All of my rips and stored music is on my NAS but it is all a bit of a mess, I need to sort it out!

It's a massive rabbit hole and time sink but worth thinking about. The end result where you have a set you can take on a USB drive and plug in anywhere is pretty dreamy but it takes some fettling.

Any recommendations for buying vinyl from Japan? After Akira Ishikawa & Count Buffaloes- African Rock, which is a current re-press. Discogs have a shop in Japan selling it new for £30, but works out to £60 after postage/charges etc. Juno are getting some copies in for £45+postage.

Can I do it cheaper, or it is what it is?

snagged a job lot of early 80s new age ambient vinyl on ebay last week (tangerine dream, isao tomita, vangelis) - lovely stuff. think my favourites are vangelis' "l'apocalypse des animaux" and tangerine dream's "hyperborea"

I've got a pre-release sheet for that with a release date of 29th March 2019. That might be why you are looking at £30-60 for a copy. It's on Mr. Bongo though, they usually re-press.

I can ask a distributor if copies are still available but it's unlikely.

Saw a film of Jean Michel Jarre performing Equinoxe the other day. Reminded me he had quite a talent.

Rejoicing today. This months records arrived and there are no signs of poor pressing yet. That has been rare lately.

Anyone who likes Texas Jazz Latin Soul Psych, there a new repress around of Joe Gallardo - Sol on Mad About Records. Nice cover with Obi and a poly lined paper inner. The pressing I have is great.

Sault - Nine is a nice release. 45rpm so lower noise floor. Short album though.

That's for a different Akira Ishikawa album (Back to Rhythm) I think. African Rock hasn't had a pressing outside of Japan (at least according to Discogs).

You're right. I've checked the latest stock lists and it's not on there but it sounds like it's not sold through yet if Juno are expecting it. I doubt the distributor I use can get it at a competitive price compared with Juno so looks like that might be the best option.

Guilty, I'm afraid. Under 300 LP's... gave away a similar number when the CD hit the market but now all new music I buy is vinyl again. Wouldn't call my current turntable a 'deck' though :) I mean, it's more or less built around a golf ball. On a string.
