Thanks!
Are you putting a Carradice on yours? -

The white leather assumes a pretty low key appearance after a few years...
True!

Yes, on days out that require more stuff, or the odd overnighter.

Question, Nelson long flap dimensions suggest a laptop would fit in the bag nicely but has anyone commuted with one regularly, if so any feedback, how bad is the bag swing etc greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I have. A change of clothes, 13" McBook, and assorted cables fit easily. Shoes also, but are a bit more of a squeeze so I tend to leave them in the office.
There is no sway with a Bagman. And having the quick-release makes it a lot easier to get the bag off at the other end.

I recently purchased a Bagman 'Expedition' QR support (not directly from Carradice) for a Camper Longflap and I'm wondering if I've ended up with a Sport version as nothing sent with it indicates what model it is. Hoping someone with the same set up can help me out as the measurements/images are a bit vague online. I remember someone mentioning the tubing is thicker on the Expedition (this one is 7mm). Thanks!

Not sure how many models there have been over the years, but I picked up the 'sport' qr version recently and it measures ~14cm tall.

interesting thanks for the info, i just can't see the bag being squashed down that much to fit the quick release. think i'll need to see a camper longflap and expedition support properly set up/measured to make sure.

My expedition is about 20cm top to bottom and about 18cm front to back

Yours looks pretty similar to some dark quick measurements of mine.

This is how the camper longflap fits on my bagman.

@yoshy @Bossman thanks a lot for the measuring up - almost certain it is an expedition now!
@Föhn really cool set up and bike. your camper longflap looks like it fits the expedition well, wondering now if a fully loaded bag pulls down the tubing to give that extra space. did you find it needed much squashing for the bag to fit?

Your presumption that everything should line up isn’t a bad assumption but won’t fly in carradice-land. The bend in the rails of a bagman are a bit off comparative to the bags. Probs been using the same bending tool and bag patterns for decades which have eventually become misaligned?

starting to realise that's the case! i'll carry on with these for now and see how it goes. it was actually your earlier post that made up my mind on the camper longflap with the super c buckles 👍

Thanks! I have to push the bag down a bit to make the quick release fit. My camper longflap only has soft items in it's main compartment, so that's no issue at all for me. The support struts stop the bagman from flexing, otherwise it would flex quite a bit with a fully loaded camper longflap.
The longflap is great, but when you use it to fit a tent underneath like i did, make sure to strap it to the dowel. I didn't and lost my tent up in the mountains. Only realized the bag slipped out when i was down in a valley trying to set up camp while pouring down.

I have another SQR/Classic rack combo for sale.
Can sell with or without the mounting block and would even take your standard SQR or classic in part ex.
This one’s just raw right now, I can hammerite, lacquer or oil it or leave it raw for you to get powdercoat done etc.
£60/50 with/without mounting block.

I have the same issue with my rough stuff special longflap super c - I think the issue is using saddle loops vs bagman. The bagman clips sit lower than saddle loops would. That’s the best I can come up with anyway. It’s a bit annoying, emailed Carradice they didn’t know why. Doesn’t seem to be a functional problem though

You seem to have identified the problem being the low mounts of the QR Bagman. The solution with these larger saddlebags would appear to be to use the non-QR version of the Bagman that attaches to the saddle loops, which are higher (perhaps the non-qr mounting block can be purchased separately from Carradice and used with your existing steel hoop?). In the absence of built-in saddle loops, the add-on Cyclo saddle loops should work here.

Yes, it still seems to be a cottage industry in some ways. I guess Carradice kept the steel hoop the same across the QR and non-QR Bagmans, when the QR one needs to be lower to allow for the change in the height of the mounts for the leather straps.
That is one of the finest looking bikes on the forum, still.
Bollocks! New page fail.
