That same friend gave me the workshop manual which is where I discovered the existence of a Plein Air version. I've seen one once in the flesh in many years of visiting the South of France. The Mehari is common by comparison. I did a great road trip in a Mehari one time but the engine is a bit puny even if you're not in a hurry.
Of course the real problem with the Plein Air is they took away the only parts of a Renault 4 that don't rust.
Turns out they've done an electric concept of the Plein Air.

My previous boss' family have a holiday home in Mallorca. They have two Mehari's that are there for anyone who needs to use them when they're visiting the house. Not entirely sure how they've managed to sort multi-use insurance, but everyone who visits their gaff seems to drive these things around the island
I had me, on a drive and maybe an autodata book.....and the belief of youth that it can't be that hard.
My support was my dad telling me to sort my shit out and fix it.
