Also while I'm here - got a quote for a full service of my 34mm 60's Tudor Oysterdate with ETA movement - £215, is that good/cheap/expensive? I've no idea but they are local folk with a good reputation and offer a 1 year warranty...

Oh, that's weird. In the UK, I think its fairly easy to get hold of the 36mm in both black and blue. I know that many ADs reduced the steel and gold variant of the 36mm, I think if Tudor had made the bezel polished rather than brushed, they would have been way more popular. I tried the silver 36mm on, initially I wasn't sure on it as I thought the tones all blended together with the bracelet but then I tried it somewhere else with better lighting and its definitely growing on me.
Many term the blue as an 'ink' blue. Its quite striking, it is lacquered but looks quite flat to me personally but I am partial to a sunburst dial, great for legibility though.

Oh and more importantly , I have just discovered we have one of the last 1861 movement speedmasters ( with the big box ) available .
Has been stashed away in the safe of another store .
needless to say I pulled rank and it's on it's way to me as we speak . -

Due to the Pandemic it’s been a year since I’ve had a chance to get to my holiday home in France .
We left via aeroplane to Italy to avoid quarantine and having arrived by car , it means we left an old Volvo on the drive .. it doesn’t look too bad tbh but obviously won’t start .However my hidden watch rolls had kept my favourites safe and the seiko solar having not seem sun for a year plus was still ticking , albeit 6 days adrift .
But most glad to be reunited with my long time owned GMT ….

Class. I’d swap a 6 digit Rolex for this any day.
I finally found one of these… to say I’m happy with it would be an understatement.

So cool. Plexi is sexy

I wish. This is a sapphire version, the Aqualung limited edition from 2018.

That faded bezel is great. Did you own it from new?

Thanks!
Yes, wasn't expecting such a shortage.
But maybe it's because I definitely don't fit in an air-conditioned champagne popping jewellers store on Kudamm?I am quite tempted by the blue, seems quite understated.
But when I look at the 36 I always fear that the minute hand is just to long.
Whats your opinion on that?
They are, at least for me, at a price point where I expect perfection.
There is a blue one for sale second hand, but it's far away. -

Don't compare it with an Oyster Perpetual then... I agree that the hands are too long on the BB36. But then I don't think there's a current Tudor that I couldn't find fault with.

Looks great, congrats, the Searambler Aqualung is a choice reference. I prefer the metres bezel that's been reinstated on the most recent 300 but it makes no difference to how cool it looks.

It was tough to find one regardless of the choice. I think overall I’m happy I found the LE as you don’t see them very often, it’s basically the same as the modern 300, but has the ft on the bezel, different crown (I prefer the silver “DOXA” to the orange fish) and the Aqualung on the dial. Funky watch for sure.
Edit: and I think the seconds hand has a bit of orange where on the standard 300 is black.

Thanks. Of course those hands are too long.
Rolex is not something you see in my social circles. Unless its buyers at the galleries I worked at as a technician. So the Tudor makes sense (and there is also a bit of a difference in price).
Yes, 116000 is perfection for me. But I want more explorer and less dress watch. -

Same for me, black dial 116000 or 126000 for a one watch collection but it's double the price and I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it regularly.

Totally understand where you're coming from. Even the most tool-ish Rolexes twinkle with their white gold markers now.
What the Tudor does well is that really tool-y brushing and a very decent bracelet (especially at the price point). And they are well made. They have a solidity. It is certainly the best 1016 / 124270 / 116000 / 126000 alternative under 2.5k - I can't even think of another ~36mm steel sports watch on a (good) bracelet at that price. For me the Bell & Ross V1-92 matches it for toolish design, quality and finishing but it's 38.5mm and only on a strap.
The Milus Snow Star has the vintage vibe and is apparently very nicely made, but again, is 39mm and only available on a strap.

Lovely.

New watch day for me - I’m experimenting with inexpensive 33mm in gold before committing to bigger monies…
Will likely switch out the expanding bracelet for a black leather number…

Maybe a Tissot Seastar of some kind? I'd love one but fear how thick they sit on the wrist...
