You’re right, the company I work for want to be on the safe side by making sure I have a negative instead of going to work with a possibility of a positive result as people who have been pinged are 4 times likely to get the virus.
Government guidelines need to be taken with a pinch of salt (as in do a bit more than less in protecting everyone).
