  • No way... this is a revelation!

  • To manage expectation; it’s a relatively small selection, a bit of this & that, but definitely worth checking if you’re in the area. Also think they have trimmings too - and use the store online text thing to check what’s going on. I know they can chat, video call, send photos, so you can get an idea before visiting!

  • I'm after some 25mm webbing buckles. Like in the picture.

Not the cheapest shittest ones which I have plenty of, but a step up.

Any recommendations for a quick delivery online vendor?

  • Thanks Kurai

tb - maybe next time :)

  • @Coot has setup a thread for Production/Ethics, which might be interesting/relevant to some on here;

    .....A lot to think about!

  • Anyone know what these buckle doohickeys are called?

  • Ladder locks?

  • Nice, thanks

  • Yep Ladderlocks, check contactleft again, pretty sure they have those curved ones. edit:https://www.contactleft.co.uk/all-products/itw-nexus-black-military-25mm-1-ladderloc.html

Turned up, its really nice stuff. Folds pretty flat back on itself, only a pin prick of light in the loop.

  • Lots of sewing lately but feels a bit weird posting my commercial stuff. But I've made myself a bag today as a proto so I reckon that's fair game. I'm very giddy over having a new trinket, if my customers are half as happy I'm doing a good job.

For everyone doing eyelets, don't waste your money by buying into the Prym ecosystem! Get a press and dies off of eBay. The initial outlay is a bit more but you break even quickly and the big presses are so much better.

  • Oh, nice find - need to get a decent binder/foot and have a look at this properly (@Tijmen I think you are the go-to for advice on binder attachments!)

  • If I had ever really worked in the field after my fashion design degree, I would try to convince girlfriend that we need to move to southern England.

  • Looking good! @moocher The grey + orange works really well,

@c.h.e. .....please pass onto anyone in your circles, great chance for someone, much good stuff happening atm!

  • Crisp. Looks good.

  • Thanks both. I need to step it up a notch still, and use a matching thread to hide where my lines are a bit off.

  • does anybody know of a computer tool or trick I can use to work out the angle on this bag for someone who doesn't have their bike with them to draw out a stencil? The TT angle is 71 but I don't have the IRL tools to work it out on paper. Thanks!

  • I usually use Fusion360 for photo tracing, although it's a bit of a bringing-a-knife-to-a-gunfight situation the ability to scale an image to a reference dimension is great. In this case I used the distance between the bottle cage bolts, which should be 63.5mm. I then export to dxf and turn it into a printable A4 with seam allowances in Adobe Illustrator, by adding a reference line I can check the printer hasn't cocked up the scaling.

  • you're a star, thank you!

  • No worries! I've just added a printable pdf too.

  • I've been working on a kimono. I'm invited to a friend's wedding where the theme is "floral" and the atmosphere relaxed so thought why the hell not. I'd read about the construction technic before but it's still amazing how relaxing it is compared to making western clothes. As looms were traditionally producing 14" wide fabric, every pattern piece had to fit within this width. So everything is a rectangle (save for a few exceptions) and there's little in the way of fabric left at the end.

Pattern is the Folkwear Kimono pattern.

Now I just need to make a black haori jacket to tone it down...
