  • Couple of Syndicate games currently free on GOG: https://www.gog.com/promo/rerelease_ultima_underworld_and_syndicate

  • I seem to remember the first Syndicate was just a rush to get the minigun, gauss gun and laser and then it was pretty much easy mode. Obviously memory is faint given I played it in 96 and 97 on floppy disc.

  • I completed Horizon a while ago, reinstalled it last night and i seem to have acquired the DLC.

As I type this I realise I have the disc copy of the game, not sure where the digital one came from, PS+ maybe?

Whatever, I am going back to 100% it and play the DLC.
Have the invincible* armour, so should be easy mode.

*Last night I realised it isn't when I got pwned by 3 Snapmaw

  • I never played the original to be honest, I was only a nipper when it came out so it didn't stand a chance when placed alongside Super Mario Kart/World. Only really got interested in the series when a spiritual successor launched a few years ago. Worth checking out for the visuals/soundtrack alone (IMO):

  • TV Talk - Getting back to looking for a new TV and as usual it's pretty overwhelming trying to work out what to get. It's all made harder as 50" is the biggest I can go for the space that the TV will be going. There's a few sets that I've found which look great with full HDMI 2.1 support for what the Series X offers and requires from a TV, but then when you check the specs the 49/50" version doesn't actually have this and it only starts on the sets from 55" up. From what I understand HMDI 2.0 can offer a lot of the perks too, but it's really difficult to find comfirmation which ones do.

So the question, does anyone have any reccomendations to look into for an up to 50" TV that will support everything available on the Series X. I don't mind 120fps not being there, but 4k@60fps, VRR, low latency would all be things I'd look for.

  • I recently bought a Sony KD-55X9000H cuz I didn't wanna drop a fortune on an LG... It's got a decent chip in it, great image quality and way fast enough for my Switch... I'm sure that it comes in a smaller size, anyway, it's worth a look...

But I'm sure one of the many IT experts will be along shortly to give you THE definitive answer to your question...

  • Depends on budget but the 48” LG OLED is objectively the best choice at that size for any gaming.

I have a 65” GX OLED and it’s incredible with both the Series X and PS5.

Looks to be around £1k: https://www.pricerunner.com/pl/2-5171556/TVs/LG-OLED48CX-Compare-Prices

  • Samsung Serif 50inch obvs?

Just downloaded syndicate games, used to love them, no idea how they even work now...

  • The Bullfrog ones that were free on GOG?

There's a manual. I had to read it. I still feel like I'm missing something, and don't remember how to use the Intelligence, Perception and Adrenaline sliders properly.

  • Yeah!
I’ll do a google, it’s so odd to play after all these years and nee digital paradigms.
Couldn’t even work out how to shoot!

  • You can find the manual in the GOG client under Extras and, for some reason, Additional executables.

Yeah, it's weird which memories come back and which don't - I've figured out some things (or found them in the manual), but I still don't know how to select two or three members of a four-person squad. I can do just one, and I can do everyone (it's the little bar in the middle).

IIRC shoot is right-click, but you have to select a weapon first.

I tried re-playing the original Doom a while ago, and have no clue how I ever ran & strafed fluidly with the cursor keys and Alt.

  • I tried syndicate a second time about 10 years ago and couldn't do it, think I'll leave it in my memory as amazing.

  • the original DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM 64 all still hold up imo. I'll regularly boot them up for another go round on the switch. DOOM 64 in particular is still a great experience

  • I expect they hold up better with the updated controls than they do keyboard-only in DOSBox.

It's funny, I remember the levels well enough, I've just been spoiled by WASD+mouse.

  • I may well give up before that last level on the oil platform. I hate to think how many tries that took the first time round.

  • After a bit of an ordering mix up, I'm going to have a spare case for a GBA SP.
I'm still waiting for one of them to arrive, if anyone is interested in a glow in the dark case, shout me.

  • That looks like it could have been a good option to look into but doesn't look to go below 55". Measured up with the size in case there's any chance and it's just a bit too big.

  • The more I look the more I forget what my initial budget was and start to think 'Yeah £1,500 looks like a reasonable option' then I look at the lower prices again and reliase it may be a bit over the top to spend that much.

Hadn't been looking at pricerunner but have since you posted this and it has the best filtering options I've seen, been able to find some good options in the right size filtered with VRR and 4k so will check through the list to see what's looking like a good deal.

  • I don't know how they managed to make a TV look so rank

  • You won’t find anything with better picture quality and features than a 48CX OLED. If £1k is in your budget, just buy it. Don’t waste your time looking at anything else.

  • huge shot at half the forum

  • Samsung Serif 50inch obvs?

    Just downloaded syndicate games

That comment just gave me a wonderful mental image of picking up one of those TVs to play a 60k pixel game

  • It's for the Live Love Laugh crowd.

  • woof everyone itt choosing violence today is it

  • Played doom a LOT at uni. In my final year the Quake beta came out. Wasted a lot of time on it… map making, mods, clans, learning that rocket jumps were a thing. Might have got a better degree if Quake had been 6 months later…
