Can someone tell me what thru axles i need for a 785 Huez, please?
I have frameset but no axles and I'm a bit bewildered by all the Mavic Speed Release chat. Is the threading for these different (double lead in?) or do I just need to know the thread pitch?

I think this is finished. Until I find a 9100 group set for sale for non-rediculous money at least anyway… (im looking at you @Señor_Bear )

Looking sweet

Sorry dude, prefer it with the shallows. Looked more purposeful.
All else is banging. -

I actually sort of agree with you TBH. But can’t decide. I’ve been mulling it over this morning and thing I might put the DT Swiss wheels back on this and put the Zipps on my Talbot.
I very rarely ride the Look or the Talbot These days anyway, as my SuperSix Disc is my go to bike, so this is very much a first world problem that is of little consequence! I only got the Zipps as a look 586 with Zipp 404’s was basically my first dream bike back in 2011ish, so it’s always been a goal of mine to realise that first dream bike.

Well… I would justify it to myself by simply saying 404s are fairly shallow, too, hah!
Awesome and tasteful bike/build; one of my fav in the forum right now

I still cant make my mind up. Zipps have been out on the Talbot. For this weekend at least anyway!

Then I rescind what I said. Live the dream you’ve had and roll on whatever you want. Looks banging as it is, it’s all first world problems as you said.

Ha! Thanks!
If only I still had the legs to warrant such a chopper bike though! If nothing else it will always be a reminder of that period of my life when I fell in love hard with cycling, and the many friendships made and good times had because of it….. Even if the mojo comes and goes and comes back again over and over as the years pass and life happens!

You need 303s

Kinda on topic, I have a KG 131 and in the internal rear brake cable routing there is a metal rod. is this normal? I ask because about 2 cm of it is sticking out the front hole and is unsightly. Any tips to removing it as it is pretty tight in there or is this a bad idea?
-
• #2840
Yes it’s normal and there should be a plastic sleeve that dresses it - can be had on eBay for cheap - don’t cut it off!
Metal rod… metal tube no?
-

metal rod
Tube, surely?
-
• #2842
Yep. A tube. This is the culprit. Won’t the brake cable outer be enough protection if I just remove the offending tube?

Hi. Plastic sleeve in-tact. I’ve poked it back (using a flat head and a hammer controversially) in a few times but keeps reappearing
-
• #2844
Hmm… that tube runs the entire way through the top tube, it’s the correct length for the size of the bike… if it were me I’d take off the plastic covers and ensure they metal tube is equally exposed at both ends then dab a blob of epoxy between metal and carbon to secure it, then re-glue the sleeves… no cutting necessary…
I think that the hole in the top tube is more of a slot/lozenge shape anyway… doubt cutting the metal tube will be an issue either -
• #2845
I’ve had the sleeves off in the past to examine and the tube is the correct size just not sure why it keeps moving forward. May give epoxy a go but more likely I’ll just try and pull the tube out completely.
Thanks for input btw -

No worries, just had a thought - is the brake cable outer just a fraction too short and therefore pulling slightly more on that metal tube? Or is it snagged somewhere and nipping the cable outer somewhere along it’s length? Anyway, sure it’ll be fine to remove it… 🤷♂️👍🏻
I’d go for the dab of glue and possibly a bit of lube on the cable outer running through the metal tube first before pulling it out…

Looks great!
I might have what you’re looking for… -

Outer could well be a tad short. The angle from the bar tape exit to the internal routing hole is rather extreme (have always thought would work MUCH better if on the right side of top tube) so might give a bit more slack.
Fortunately I've recently ordered new cable set as it's due a good service. I will remove both sleeves, use a bit more cable outer, centralise the tube and give it 1 last chance before removing completely.
Great suggestions. Much appreciated! -

Nearly done - wondering why it came with the ugly seatpost?!

French bike is designed for Euro braking, non?
I used to run 28s on my 566 - 4 seasons on Shimano wheels - snug but they took me round Roubaix
