You mean an mp3 player with a built-in speaker?
There's loads of them. No idea what's any good though

You mean an mp3 player with a built-in speaker? I wasn't even aware things like that existed..
..also I guess I was somewhat set on using an old phone for this as, while it's not needed to make calls / use the internet etc. they could also have a couple useful apps on there like a tea-timer etc.
Whatever kind of device it is - sound quality should be somewhat decent at low volumes.
