It's a fucking pain . Problems can arise with :
- How do you affix the railing to the existing structure? Will it be stable and secure ? Will it move over time? Do you need to place extra structural support for the railing ?
- If installing over an existing external roof or terrrace- how can the installer / builder guarantee the thing will be waterproof where it's fixed into the existing roof structure.
An architect may or may not care about the above . An installer will likely take the job/ deposit before flagging any of this
