Yup it will need greasing then will be full of dirt. Do this before adjusting tension.
Should be a guide on YouTube. -

The reluctance to Read The Fucking Manual in this thread
-
• #8330
Shimano compatibility charts also only work with Shimano products not DT Swiss freehubs etc.
-
• #8331
What's the service interval for an RD clutch according to the manual ?
-
• #8332
If I believed everything I read in Shimano charts, I wouldn't be running 40T and 42T cassettes on my bikes. Shimano manuals also don't mention freehub burrs. cross-threading, corrosion and as you say, any of the thousands of parts possibly in use instead of their own, so their manuals are only so useful.

When it stops shifting properly to big cogs? Even Lennard Zinn has an FAQ on it.
Dealer manual for Ultegra RX RD (for example) shows both the service procedure for the clutch and a completely different chain length setting method to road derailleurs. RTFM stands.
-
• #8334
If you read the dealer manual you'd already have gone past the shifting limits they specify. RTFM still irrelevant.
Also, this is a bike forum for "discussion". Maybe the OP bought the bike without manuals. Maybe PDF downloads aren't working for them. It's not like it's the same question being asked 5x every day like "how do I fix my chainline" or whatever.

• #8335
If everyone RTFM and JFGI this place would be silence.

How impossible is it going to be to find a silver 10 speed group set to put on an old steel frame during the Great Bike Shortage, in the EU? Have damaged a wheel on my 8 speed RX100/105 bike and want to use it as an excuse to upgrade it.
-
• #8337
Just depends on what you want to upgrade it to and what stock is around. I had to mix and match retailers to build my MTB but it's hard to say what older stuff is about as I've not looked for any.
-
• #8338
Black groupset with silver cranks and brakes is a good compromise
-
• #8339
Hmmm, I'll have to think on that... it is 90s steel with integrated cabling, blue-white fades...
-
• #8340
"in stock" groupsets are all the rage these days.
-
• #8341
It'll only be the lever arms and the derailleurs that are black.
Or just buy a used groupset!
-
• #8342
11 speed Athena is now going for more than RRP
-
• #8343
Get a Retrospec or Senseh groupset instead.
-
• #8344
Go fixed. I hear it's the new best thing.
-
• #8345
In the future everyone will be riding Sensah. It's as good as Shimano.
Not sure where I read that.
-
• #8346
Just fuck the groupsets, friction any old shit together. It’s the best way.
-
• #8347
And don't forget! The friction shifter is best accessorised with a beret.
-
• #8348
Yep! Less money on stuff that wears out/becomes intentionally obselete when a new proprietary size of stuff comes out (Road Boost anybody?), more money for finery innit famalam
-
• #8349
Road Boost anybody?
I am surprised you know this
-
• #8350
Ha only because of people who know telling me things I didn’t yet know.
I hasten to add this is not beret cycling weather, in fact it’s not cycling weather. Went into town to try on a tailor made wool coat yesterday! (golf club thread candidate^) Fucking ikky. I’ll be happy when it gets cold. If it ever gets cold again.
Thnx, will look into the clutch tension tomorrow. Been using this RD with the 11-34 cassettes for 2 years now w/o any issues. I wasn't aware the clutch needs maintenance.
