  • RE: Tight spade connectors - I find a bit of dielectric grease applied to the "male" part does wonders. I've accidentally ham-handed opening up the "female" ends with a screwdriver and had to redo them in the past...

  • I've found the tiniest smear of normal grease works well too

  • I’ll take some pictures tonight if you’d like. I just set it up on the Spooky.

  • I would be very into that if you have the time! I don't know what it is about wiring, but I just have a total mental block. I can rebuild a sturmey hub with my eyes closed but electric schematics are just a language I don't understand

  • Pictures might be a bit hard to understand but here ya go.

  • that is handy actually, thanks - the junction box is a little bigger than I thought, which makes fiddling around the guts of it less daunting!

  • Looking for any advice really, why would someone choose the son 28 over the son deluxe?

  • "B&M iq-xs Friendly T" is <£40 on amazon, closest to German Internet bikeshop price with decent UK delivery I've seen

  • delux for road I found. Less drag.

  • 1W maximum difference. That's not a lot of watts.

  • Looking for any advice really, why would someone choose the son 28 over the son deluxe?

The SON 28's voltage output curve suggests it might work better for charging USB devices at more moderate speeds, e.g., 5-15 kmh. So it may be a little better in this regard for commuting.

  • Thanks guys, I think the bigger flange on the son 28 won me over.

  • My experience with a delux and an igaro D2 is that there is insufficient voltage to charge directly a wahoo bolt... Igaro suggested I should be using the 28 saying that I'd only get 2/3 the power with a delux

Anyone know anywhere I can get one of these or equivalent with v fast delivery? Got a night ride on Friday and forgot these don't come with the lights

  • I probably have a spare somewhere. They are the same as exposure/SP hubs right?

  • I think so yes. If not, they're very similar! Please don't put yourself out though - if I can't find one I think keep pedalling should have one and I'll just have to swallow the manic lunchtime dash to town.
Last resort I can butcher the surly and order the bits and fix it all after the weekend. Just want the postman to drop one tomorrow...

  • Give me half an hour and I'll let you know.

  • Forum-visible thank-you for saving the day ❤️

  • my experience of igaro is they are crap.

on another note; 2/3 power is about right on a deluxe, we, aka sjs, do not recommend deluxes for anything other than lights

  • After just committing to my first dynamo wheel build with a pd-8 hub. I’m not after some lights, my budget was around 100 for a set give or take, now I was eyeing the iq-x and s models along side the classic son edelux ii (though out of budget at 129.99) rear light wise l I like the look of the Busch&Muller µ. Any of you have any more input to guide me toward the right lights.

This will be mainly commuting with the occasional longer weekend ride, though mainly sticking to roads.

  • I have a set of B&M IQ-X + µ sitting in a box waiting to be mounted, so no real world info yet. This will be a strict commuter and eventual tour next year.

The µ really is tiny and has a nice alu finish, think it pairs well with the IQ-X. Not really a fan of the supplied fender mounting though. Luckily I have enough mounting points on my T1000 but this could be something you need to figure out before buying, ie you would need some kind of bracket.

Have a set of IQ-XS + Secula running on the family Bullitt for about 3 years now with almost everyday use and it has been solid. Which was the reason for going to B&M again for me.

  • This is great to hear, the size of the rear is what’s selling me on it. Was personally planning on mounting it on my seatpost with the provided mount. Will keep an eye on the prices of these now then and hopefully get a pair soon!

  • Is an E3 triple 2 and a Son delux a suitable pairing?
Does the 28 give possible charging benefits without any negatives?
This will be mainly for road riding.
