I’ll go with not enough in the tank.
If he had, I think he would have gone to the right before Philipsen got there.Don’t think he was in good condition after the last mountains, was already saying he would like his team to sit in the bunch and rest before the start of that day.
Still, not bad for someone who wasn’t expected to even be there.

I would be happy just to tour the route. Most racers can only dream of winning a stage. He's won so many of the bastards it's borderline ridiculous. Still would've liked the hollywood ending though. I hope he's happy with his wins and not ruing today's stage.

He did. It was a good wheel. I don't think he had enough in the tank to get past though or maybe he wasn't up for tangling with barriers.
