  • Ended up just removing the battery to see what would happen. No alarm.

    Battery was brand new 11 months ago so a bit older than I thought. Multimeter said voltage was 9.7v!

  • It might be simpler. But my catalan extends as far as ordering dinner. And I've enough on my plate right now, less trying to get a plated changed, pay tax etc rules are a lot stricter here re homolgonation

  • Battery may not come back to full charge.

    Keep an eye on the battery voltage while charging and check the battery is not getting warm.

  • So, we picked it up on Friday, drove it 400km south to the in laws, and back home on Monday. It’s fucking brilliant!
    The ride is utterly astonishing. It just glides. Far better than I remember my dad’s BX GTi in the 80s. And yet you can corner at 90kmh and it’s totally flat. It doesn’t feel sporty at all, it just goes round bends at speeds it has no right to, in a manner which can only be described as uncanny.

    The aircon is good, the stereo is very decent, the boot space is huge, and the seats are very comfortable. The windows are laminated and double glazed for quietness, and it has a speed limiter which is handy in the villages.

    I really like this car so far.

  • This is great. Hopefully it stays good for you. It seems that Citroen really had the priorities right with this. Tour in comfort, at speed.
    Makes me think I should ditch the A4 Avant, buy one of these for the long drives and get a small EV for the everyday short runs.

  • The more I read up on this car the more I like it. My favourite things from a couple of YouTube reviews are the ride quality being in danger of making drivers fall asleep, although to be fair the reviewer was probably missing the point. And the centre of the steering wheel staying still whilst the rim rotates.

  • Seen an outback, and in all honesty its a good choice. But its a 2.5i, will I regret that v the 3.0r ? I see the 2.5 can have headgasket issues but perhaps not too expensive to fix if so.

  • Had my 2006 2.5 outback almost 10 years. Absolutely great car.

  • 3.0 H6 is good but quite thirsty. Although actually all the outback’s are quite thirsty by modern standards.

    H6 is better in someways - timing chain instead of belt and VVT

    Head gaskets on a Subaru is an engine out job FYI so it can be a bit more spendy than a conventional inline 4cyl

  • Had a 3.0 spec B legacy as well, that was a genuinely fast car but the Outback is fast enough for A road overtakes even fully loaded.

    Ours averages 28mpg locally doing short runs, 30+ on longer runs.

    3.0 was high teens and single figures if gunned.

  • Thanks. I don't drive much so fuel consumption not really an issue, just want to be able to get in and turn key and it work

    Labour and work is a lot cheaper in Spain, so both preventative and needed maitance is less of a wallet hit.

    My van does 25 and I've done 14,000mi in that, so I can face 30.

  • I currently own an 2001 H6 3.0L Outback and it feels fast enough. Personally the weak link is the ride height as it can feel a bit boaty in the corners, it's no sports car. I imagine a normal Legacy might be better in this respect, but also how fast do you really want to go on public roads? It is quite thirsty, but I only use it for weekends and odd trips so not a deal breaker. If I was using it everyday to commute it might be a different story. We're driving up the lake district tomorrow and currently have 3 bikes in the back with ample space for bags. We also moved house with it which on reflection was a bridge too far.
