  • Having said all that, if and when shimano release a fully wireless mtb groupset, sram is getting thrown straight out the window.

  • What I said, apparently the cassette spacing is not exactly the same, so the indexing is a bit off, just slightly. That's why you get better results centering it in the middle of the cassette, it drifts away a fraction of a mm each shift. That's what read on the internet, could be wrong.

  • I haven't encountered this yet. So far I've only tested the bike sprinting up and down the street but didn't notice the jockey wheel having any issue.

I'm only going on the comments to the article that you posted.

You are using GX AXS or XX1 AXS?

  • Yes, I understand this and it's how I've set it up. It's aligned with the 6th cog.

There was someone on weightweenies who'd produced a chart showing the alignments here

  • There's apparently no tangible difference to the way gx and xx1 axs shifts. Just a barely lower weight.
Carbon cage and some Ti bolts on xx1.

Which axs kit did you buy?

  • XX1

  • The narrow/wide guide pulley thing is a bit odd, I don't understand why some people seem to have issues and others do not.

  • I look forward to pages and pages on your thread of getting not quite perfect shifting...

  • I don't see why it would make a difference, espcially when teh chains (and KMC etc) should be cross compatible

  • With 12 speed eagle and shimano there's now differences between the chains.
The 12 speed shimano chains have longer inner links and chamfered. So they don't quite mate up with eagle chainrings and cassettes the same way 11 speed chains were all cross compatible.

Of course there's people on forums saying they are using shimano chains with eagle and vice versa with no problems...

But Shimano say you need the full ecosystem for hyperglide+ to work to its full potential.

  • But Shimano say you need the full ecosystem for hyperglide+ to work to its full potential.

yeah I guess I meant it works without skipping etc rather than it works to hyperglide+ spec. IE KMC 12speed chains "work" on both

  • I've got totally used to being able to shift to a lower gear under full power - I'd just like it to make Zerk! Zerk! noises whilst it does it. Therefore I'm going for XTR cassette, chain and chainring, then XX1 AXS mech and shifter. And, as TotalShanner says, potentially pages of fettling.

I admit that I didn't realise that HG+ wanted a bigger gap between the upper pulley and the cassette than HG does.

  • Ah right got you. Yeah kmc say it will work but seems the reports are that it doesn't work so well with shimano

  • Until a couple years ago I ran 11 speed XT on my mtbs and it was completely flawless.

I'd like the crisp clean shifts of 11 speed XT but with an electronic mech, it seems hard to get there.

  • di2 11speed XT??

Or you want the 12 speed?

  • I don’t think 11 speed is HG+, wasn’t that part of the move to 12?

  • di2 11speed XT

Ha! I did think about it but the completely wireless aspect of axs sold it for me.

  • Yes, that is also a strong draw - a bike that only has hydraulic hose rather than hoses, shifter cable and dropper cable does look a lot neater.

  • One thing to add, I ordered my shift-kit from Lordgun, choosing the Fedex option for delivery - I'll report back on my adventures in importing in this exciting post Brexit world.

  • I hadn't realised how hard it is to buy a 12 speed chain. Arse.

  • had my new bike delivered but think the Di2 RD is fucked. was fine for 20 mins into a ride and now it won't shift up the block any further than 3rd cog..... and within those 3 cogs it is sluggish and not indexed correctly. No idea how this has happened. FD is absolutely fine. Vid below - any thoughts?

cant use e tube as I have a mac and my windows computer is locked down by my IT dept and bluetooth module not installed as standard (fuck you shimano/my IT dept)

also any good "Di2 for dummies" guides? i need to learn more about it rather than just relying on it working - cant have shit like this happening if I am on a group ride. i read about crash recovery mode but I assume there are other things that I need to understand

lol there is literally a Di2 for dummies guide here - https://bettershifting.com/di2-for-dummies-beginners-guide-to-di2-manual/

  • Have you tried holding down the junction box button for 5 seconds while spinning the cranks?

  • thats crash recovery isnt it? doesnt seem to do anything - junction box flashes but it wont cycle through the gears

  • Sorry - this won't help you Swedee, it's an article relevant to the AXTR chat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V83_bMeHgQ
