Neither do I but even the best phone cameras are shit compared to a little Sony so I pick and choose when I take a camera out.
-
• #21428
Yeah. I do need a new phone for now though. Ans I can use the fujifilm I have, but again, never take it.

I know what you mean but I got sick of the phone photos. I got a little case that I can wear on a belt like a hip-pack. It keeps it out of the way and off the bike so it's not vibrated to death.
I still like the Sony XCovers for a not too bulky rugged option but the camera isn't ace.

Might be very late to this, but a second hand/reconditioned S10e might work well. Otherwise, the A50 5G ticks those (excluding the last one - no idea on that).

Also all phone seem so big. 150mm height is my limit.
Lt me have another look
-
• #21432
Yeah, that's why I stopped at the XCover 4S because the newer versions got bigger again and lost their hardware buttons. No idea what I'll get next. Manufuckturers still think that everyone wants a fucking tablet and not a phone.

Nah very timely! I'll have a look thanks

Thanks also for this rabbit hole 😂
So so many options... -

i am thinking a pixel 5 is the answer. or oneplus 9 pro, if i want duel sim, but its 200 euro more...
while missing a lot of what I want, it has a good camera, and is reasonably priced.

They're not IP68 though are they? I'm sure I looked at Pixel in the past and dismissed them due to lack of waterproofing. Possibly an older model I'm talking about though.
EDIT: It is "IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins)"
£500 for a fucking Google phone can do one.

realistically none will be that good. if it's got an open charging port it's jsut going to get moisure there. my s9 always complaines about moisture in the port first.
-
• #21438
My pixel 3 is still going strong and waterproofing has been good, no complaints of soggy ports.

I've still got the Sony Z3 Compact that outlasted my Garmin during TCR4. But all the newer Sony phones got bigger, shitter and lacked the neat features that made the Z3 great for bike use.

To be fair, its me, I kill phones. My s9 is hanging on for dear life. I'm impressed it lasted 2 years.
-
• #21441
500 is half of 1000, which is what everyone else is charging for the same.
My s9 screen is smashed and its 200 to replace it...

I paid £245 for my XCover 4S so I'm clearly in a different price range to the Instagram crowd.

• #21443
I do have £10k worth of camera gear sitting here though so maybe that's why I spend less on phones. (obvs golf club thread fishing)
-
• #21444
This is the first one I've had that's outlasted it's contract.

Haha yeah there's a niche for Sumo Wrestler porn I'm exploiting in Japan.
Nah, the first time I've had the big camera out in years was Santorini and mostly it's old gear that was expensive years ago that is now worth fuck all.

interestingly the pixel 4a is half the price of a 5 339eur V 639eur. It also has a 3.5 jack but is NOT IP68 rated.
I am not sure a pixel 5 is worth twice the cost to me, but i do want that ip68
I don't want to carry 2 things
Yes I guess a case is the answer, just simpler when ita all in one. I also need a quadlock mount to work.
