  • These are the best that I tried.
Usually, abrasion is what makes them falling apart, so oil, grease, or sanitiser alcohol-free will only prolong their life.
I manage to keep them usable 2/3 weeks, 4 days a week, 8 hours for day.

  • For solvents or you use specific ones or better not use gloves at all, all the others will melt or impregnate which will prolong the fumes.

  • DIY Tool Porn.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the past by the side of the road, in the rain and dark rounding off bolts with rubbish tools. When I got the VFR I made a leather case and assembled this.

  • These are the clever bit they change a ratchet spanner into a socket driver.

  • That's an old chain tool. What kinda gears are you running?

  • 12 speed Shimano

  • I guess if it's only for getting the length right it's no big deal.

  • What am I saying this is tool porn thread, get the one that does 12 speed!

  • What about 13spd tho?

  • Go for Park I guess, not what I'd call porn but Abbey one stops at 12 according to the write up online

  • All it needs to do is to cut a chain to length, which I think this one will do.

  • 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • Yeah, @psg1ben , stop trying to get Neil to buy unnecessary things!

  • Besides, that spoke key needs to go in the bin first

  • That leather box is great, I wish I had enough space under the saddle or pillion to use something like that.

  • @Dammit, does your car toolkit have spare derailleur hangers for your mtbs, or even a spare derailleur? As busting those seems more likely than having to service your fork in the car park

  • I have a spare hanger, but I don't have a spare mech - I'm making the assumption that a 12 speed Shimano mech would be findable by someone suitably motivated.

I've not even considered the tools I'd need to service a fork as I don't have a clue where to start with that.

  • Not being entirely serious about the fork, but given the Shimano shortages I'd probably try to have one on standby

I've only broken two in my life, but have seen many more die mid-ride on other people's bikes

  • From a quick look there are none available from UK vendors, but Bikester will sell you one for ~£60 more than the UK price (taking the £ at Wiggle for a reference point here).

  • I look at these tool boxes and I have to assume that they’re heavily prepared for suspension servicing due to all the sockets and spanners- I have not included these tools because there’s simply no use for them in my box as they’re useless for the rest of the bike.
