Everyone says it's arrogance, but that doesn't make sense, given that the over riding English sentiment is anxiety and desperation. Reading the media you might well build up a picture of arrogance, and seeing the well publicised behaviour of many of the traveling fans you would build up a poor picture of the supporters for sure.
But there's a particular level of resentment of England across the board which seems to stem from more than just awful media and traveling fans, which also aren't unique to us.
I see why you say colonial history, but do other colonial powers get this level of spite? It feels similar to anti USA sentiment in other sports, but with the arrogance argument superimposed for effect.

It's just a perception... The aloof, superior attitude, the unwillingness to let go of a colonial past and the national delusion that goes along with that... It's pathetic...

I gave up my season ticket (Red Action) because there were a few fans that would shout obscene things at the opposing players taking corners 5m away from us. I tried a few times to tell them to shut the fuck up but it was relentless.

No we can't, a significant percentage of England fans are utterly abject thick-arse racist cunts. I'm pretty glad they lost, feel a bit sorry for the players and manager mind.
I feel the same. I’ve seen so many videos of ‘fans’ embarrassing themselves yesterday to think that it’s ‘just a minority’. They don’t deserve to support a team that wins.

The arrogance of post colonial entitlement hangs over England and with football there is the hangover with the little englander clininging on to that 2 WW and one wc bollox. I think this team with Southgate is pushing to get rid of that and I'm def proud of what they have achieved this tournament.

Downplaying ones sides racism cos the other side are a pack of racist cunts doesn't make your side any better.

Racism, homophobia, etc is a problem that gets created by a certain side of the well educated powers and sold as a blinder to the bottom, the bottom, who has only beer and football to live for, spill it out.

Don’t forget the entitlement. It’s coming home has taken on a different meaning since ‘96. England have won one tournament in a sport that they literally invented. Normally you dislike other teams and their fans because they’re good at something, they typical England fans have all the arrogance and entitlement without the titles to back it up.

Calcio storico is the real originator, invented in Florence much long before.
You can lump a significant proportion of away travelling club football fans into that bracket too.
Ive been travelling to away European games with Arsenal for nearly 15 years now (quiet at the back!) and the only way I can stomach it is to stay away from my fellow "fans" until kick-off so I don't have to be anywhere near the racist bile that spews out of some of their mouths after a few beers. I'm sure its a minority but when you add the "it's just banter" apologists in the group it sure feels like a majority.
Fuck that shit. It's always the fans that ruin football for me.
