  • Yeah - I'm doing "X" :P

I'd rather wrangle Dad into Central London before he has a drink than after.

But I have taken your advice on leaving the "event dinner" for another time so we are going to one of the don't-scare-the-horses chains. No one will be delighted by their meal but no one will be horrified either so it's a no score draw.

  • Anyone got a good lead on a 25.4mm to 26.0mm seat post shim? Can only find handlebar shims, and my wife is sick of the coke can shim I made slipping and leaving her peddling with her knees around her ears.

  • Is the 25.4 post something special? If not, I'd be inclined to get a 26.0 Kalloy post and say goodbye to shim misery.

USE make a 25.0 to 25.6 which would work fine as a 25.4 to 26.0, the slot would only open up by an extra 0.13mm

  • Instant coffee tins are slightly thicker

  • peddling with her knees around her ears.

I assume you pedalling, because if she's peddling then knees around the ears is the traditional position.

  • Is SRAM 9 speed mtb cassette spacing the same as Shimano 10 speed road? Remember there was some cross compatibility between 9/10speed.. cannae remember the details though.

  • Shimano 9 MTB rear mech can be used with the old 105 10 speed road shifters?

    For cassettes spacing, Shimano 9 = SRAM 9, and Shimano 10 = SRAM 10

  • Does this make sense to anybody?

According to the description this is a 1" JIS threaded headset (30.0mm cups), with a 26.4mm crown race. I thought ISO headsets used 26.4mm crown races, and JIS 27.0?

I emailed them about it, and they confirm the cups are 30.0mm and the crown race is 26.4mm.

  • My wife has a very old iphone, like a 4 or something, I bought her a SE and we want to transfer all her precious texts and photos and contacts over to it (and the sim) and not lose anything. neither of us are techie or have much energy for these sorts of things so I wondered where I should take the two phones to get set up: the apple store, the EE store or an independant phone shop (and if so which)?

  • also... does anyone know where one can get plain lycra (or maybe otehr material?), non- thermal knee warmers?

  • Is SRAM 9 speed mtb cassette spacing the same as Shimano 10 speed road? Remember there was some cross compatibility between 9/10speed.. cannae remember the details though.

No. SRAM road and mtb 9 spacing = Shimano road and mtb 9 spacing.

Shimano 9 MTB rear mech can be used with the old 105 10 speed road shifters?

Older 5700 10-speed shifters can, but I think the newer ones might have changed to the 11-speed shift ratio. Someone will need to confirm that though.

    For cassettes spacing, Shimano 9 = SRAM 9, and Shimano 10 = SRAM 10

    Yes.

  • If you have a computer at home, you can create a local backup of your phone with iTunes and 3 clicks of your mouse. If you’re not confident about that, then going to Apple or EE is your best bet, and once they’ve done the transfer they can show you how to set up a local backup on your computer at home.

  • Shimano 9 MTB rear mech can be used with the old 105 10 speed road shifters?

Yes. I've used a 9 speed XT mech with a 10 speed Ultegra 6700 shifter. Worked fine.

  • I need a new toaster.
The current four-slot Dualit with a sticky timer (second replacement in two years) has gone sticky again and while paying an annual Dualit tax of £15 (which is roughly the cost on t'web of a new timer), is peanuts compared to the cost of a house burning down, toast really shouldn't be this tricky.
    What do you use?

  • Not I

  • What do you use [to make toast]?

    The grill in the oven.

  • Panasonic NB-G110P, best toaster oven.
Good enough to sub for a full size if the item is small enough, but still toasts really well.

  • …or go all in and get a belt fed one? I resent the coffee machine for taking up counter space; a grill works better than a toaster for me—the extra time for small batches and need for a turning step is more than balanced by the good parallelisation & perfect space economy.

  • thank you Eseman

  • @withered_preacher thanks, only problem is it looks technologically-advanced enough to be hackable and I don’t wanna boot it up one day to find all my bread has been encrypted…

@aglet nice idea, and this is going to make me look up secondhand options at the catering suppliers up the road. Just in case.

(John Lewis branded two slicer looking most likely)

  • Not net connected, unless you mean by hackable that someone could break into your place and install a raspberry pi in it while you're not looking...
