  • Mini_com was given a caterpillar in a tub to hatch at home (didn't tell us we had to buy the butterfly nursery thing too.....). This is what came out of it.

  • I am guessing you know that it's a painted lady.

  • That's what the info pack said

  • According to ms_com, who actually read the pack

  • @Jehannum really like the photos and particularly envious of the Norfolk Hawker, still yet to see one.

  • @eskay and @caveatgez thanks for the pointers

  • Awww, thanks!

  • A couple from last year. Cinnabar moth catepillar, blue tailed damselfly and a ringlet butterfly?

  • We had a swallow tail moth in our kitchen the other day, pretty cool!

    (not my pic)

  • Wow that's beautiful

  • Swallow tail has returned to its rest on the kitchen window frame!

  • I guess the tail section is supposed to mimic eyes? Never seen one of these before, nice pic!

  • A Willow Beauty today

  • Not sure tbh, I'm no moth expert. I hadn't seen one until a few days ago, looks just like a piece of crinkled paper from a distance.

We moved into our house about 4 years ago and have been doing more to encourage wildlife in (pond, wildflowers, don't mow the grass, let things get a bit overgrown) and we get lots of cool bugs (I think) as a resut of that. Had a convulvulus hawk moth a couple of years ago, I'll see if I can find the photo.

  • Think this is a sea slater, apparently very common but never seen one before. Kinda cute in an ugly sort of way.

  • Ooh I saw a couple of those down in St Ives harbour earlier this year. Also never seen before. Bad pic but you can just about make it out.

  • Yes, and it's neither an insect nor a spider. :)

  • Pfft it’s close enough

  • A few visitors while chopping some wood today:

    Black Lace Weaver above(?)

Giant House Spider I think (above)

  • Can't gauge scale of last image.

    Looks fucking massive. 😎

  • Seen today along the Ruislip Pinn.

  • Is this what one calls "a wheelsucker"? 😁 Late night guest visiting my bike shed (Privet hawk moth)
