  • Chapeau!

Looks like first female was overall winner too.

  • Thanks, wore your cap for the duration too!

  • Amazing! Good effort.

  • Bloody hell, well done!

  • Thanks all. Yes the lady that won totally smashed it. Started out in 2nd place for the first couple of checkpoints behind a fast guy but he ended up DNF after going too hard and dropping out.
Just looking through the results - top 3 all 23hrs something then a big gap out to the chap in front of me (only 10 mins, if only I'd known!) and myself.

    11 finishers total - that's a huge DNF rate!

  • Bravo! The kind of post that makes me want to go for a run

  • Wow, congratulations.

  • Anyone have experience with running with a broken rib?

I broke mine on Sunday at the climbing wall. I know there’s not much you can do to try and heal it quicker.

  • Morning,

I have a Big Half entry place that I can't take up, but it's too late to get a refund. Would anyone like it?

Sunday 22nd August, leaves from near the Tower of London.

  • I think it depends where the break is, whether it’s displaced or not and your tolerance to pain.

I broke one in May last year and had to stop running whilst it healed as the jarring was too painful.

  • As @andyp said, it deopends on the break.

I cracked two ribs in 2019 and I was able to run with them fine. In fact I was advised to run if comfortable doing so to promote deep breathing and reduce the risk of pneumonia developing.

I think I was just lucky that my cracks didn't hurt too much while running.

  • just checking if I'm about that weekend - if so then yes

    I'm free if it's still going :)

  • Sure it's all yours

  • I'll pm you later about it,

  • I slammed off a mountain bike a while back and ran a very painful Parkrun the next day. About seven days later was peak rib pain, then gradually subsided over ~ 6 weeks. I think it’s a case of do what you feel you can, it’ll let you know pretty damn quick if it’s a stupid idea. I see on Strava that @BringMeMyFix has just about seen off a cracked rib so he may have some tips.

  • What socks do people recommend that are not super dear? I’ve had 1000 mile which were good but pretty pricey. Or is it worth just paying for them?

  • Road or trail use ?

  • Hello. I fractured no.9 (so much for lucky number), posterior. Couldn’t run the first three days. Couldn’t do much really. Not doing any fast running at the moment, but from week two I was able to get out there at easy pace, avoiding uneven surfaces and mad descents to start with. Happy to trot round a 2 hour run at ~5min/km pace the third week, throwing in some tempo the fourth (and light trail).

Running was probably the easiest cardio option. Few trips on the Brompton and some Wattbike sessions were uncomfortable at first. It’s only in week 6 that I’ve been able to put the hammer down, and deal with twisting forces out the saddle. On the erg, from week 2 I could row with damper on minimum, but am now up to speed, though avoiding hard starts.

Codeine and Ibuprofen in week one, twice daily calcium supplement throughout rehab. Plenty of sleep, once sleep was comfortable.

    Get well soon.

  • I like feetures socks.

I've also recently got some of the thin merino planet X socks, and they're really nice to run in, and only about £1.99 a pair

  • Had some shin pain after a pretty hard speed session, did a 19k long run the day after (spoiler: that was a terrible idea) and it hurt again, so I took it easy for the rest of the week and weekend to let it sort itself out. Tried a gentle jog to the gym this morning but it was immediately back.

Anyone else had shin splints and how long has it taken you to recover? Any dos and don'ts? Coach has prescribed a week of total rest which makes sense, even though I'll be climbing the walls by Friday.

  • I've had More Mile socks forever. They don't die.

In the event of a nuclear holocaust, there will be cockroaches and More Mile socks left to rule the world

  • Given that you barely get a year from bloody expensive shoes I think it’s worth spending money on nice socks which will usually last five times that. I like my 1000 Miles ones but they have shrunk a bit with time, my other recommendation is Balega.
I like my socks to be slightly thicker.
