  • Anyone have experience with running with a broken rib?

I broke mine on Sunday at the climbing wall. I know there’s not much you can do to try and heal it quicker.

  • I think it depends where the break is, whether it’s displaced or not and your tolerance to pain.

I broke one in May last year and had to stop running whilst it healed as the jarring was too painful.

  • As @andyp said, it deopends on the break.

I cracked two ribs in 2019 and I was able to run with them fine. In fact I was advised to run if comfortable doing so to promote deep breathing and reduce the risk of pneumonia developing.

I think I was just lucky that my cracks didn't hurt too much while running.

  • I slammed off a mountain bike a while back and ran a very painful Parkrun the next day. About seven days later was peak rib pain, then gradually subsided over ~ 6 weeks. I think it’s a case of do what you feel you can, it’ll let you know pretty damn quick if it’s a stupid idea. I see on Strava that @BringMeMyFix has just about seen off a cracked rib so he may have some tips.
