I've never got the need to have anybody up there with the winner, maybe someone local to the stage finish (mayor?) to hand over a medal and some flowers.

Chapeau to Froome, suppose he can’t have his racing finished by a crash.

Presumably Dlamini not make the cut? Didn't see him abandon.
Found the out of timers.
Riders over time limit: Demare, Guarnieri, Delaplace, De Bod, Dlamini, Vliegen, Coquard

His face looks much older than the rest of him.

Are Cav made it with a minute or two to spare.
Hadn’t realised it’s today’s roads that he struggled up to miss the time cut in 2018.
Must have been a serious relief.
And no Tim Merlier, Van Der Poel, Démare, so he’s going to win another 4 stages now?

Demare out today reminds he held by a car sufficiently in 2018 when there was no grupetto, Zabel, Greipel (and others?) over cut and out.

• #1645
That was the same day that Cavendish came in over the time cut.
Some of the same climbs, worse weather this time around.
-
• #1646
I hope he’s been double vaccined
-
• #1647
Sad to see Coquard and Demare out, Demare got a fourth but I'm not sure Coquard has even got a top 10.
Aside from fans' favourite Bouhanni it's not a good year for French sprinters.

Has their ever been a previous tour winner end the race as lantern rouge ?

Geraint Thomas has won the Tour, and finished second last, on his debut in 2007.
I believe that is the closest anyone has ever got to winning it and finishing last.
To me that equals no podium girls. I guess you could snark about them still being young and fit, but I never claimed not to be ageist so fine with me.
