Riding back through Croydon yesterday I almost got wiped out by a Nissan Micra. While riding up a long 2% ramp I saw the Nissan coming fast downhill with RH indicator flashing, aiming for the turning that I could see ahead on my left. It did not slow down very much at all, then just started to turn across me. I realised it was on a collision course and I yelled something like "heyheyHEYHEYHAAAAARGH". It passed maybe 1-2 inches behind me. I think a crash was averted by me accelerating a little and the Nissan lifting off the accelerator.
I looked back to that turning and could see the driver raise an arm in a "what the fuck" kind of way. I was already on a climb and there was no damage so I just pushed on, making good use of the adrenaline. I then checked and saw my front light was off - the battery had obviously run flat. But it was only 4pm and I had full sun in my face so I was quite visible. I guess the chap was sleepy after a big roast dinner?

Avon and Somerset police won’t accept footage after 7 days.
I'm sorry but what the fuck?

It’s a madness. 4 camera angles and I just have to sit on my hands.
Their internal policy and wider laws on timescales for charging motoring offences need a shake up.

Police having a cut off point for accepting evidence and not enforcing any timeframe for companies to supply requested evidence is laughable. It's either utterly incompetent policy or deliberate. It's definitely a problem that needs fixing.

deliberate

I'd guess it's because a notice of intended prosecution needs to be received within 14 days of the offence so that's giving a couple of days to process the video.

PC Illife told a cyclist the driver of the vehicle involved was
reported for driving without due care and had completed a driver
improvement course. However, this was untrue and the driver had only been given words of
advice. He subsequently lied to the Traffic Evidential Review Officer (TERO)
about the action that had been taken and how both parties had been
updated. -

This Tweet has attracted a large number of comments, some of which suggests it's gone viral ... I don't know how that's measured, but you can see why it might have done. Various people have looked up the Vehicle Excise Duty status of the car (unpaid), and suggest it may be a minicab--well, it might also have been stolen, who knows without further investigation. Equally inevitable, sadly, are all sorts of speculation about the rider. It seems that the police are aware of it, so I expect there may be some news on whether or not they have taken action against the driver soon.

Needless to say, hope the rider's alright and manages to get the bike, which must surely be damaged, repaired, or a replacement bike.

East Dulwich Grove today. He stopped when he realised he might not make it up the hill.

What's going on here would be more obvious if I'd found time to photograph it from the side. That lorry is supposed to hold 2 cars, one behind the other, but this is holding three with the third car jammed on top of the second.
The rear car is supposed to be held in place partly by being chained to the support frame underneath it and also by a digger-style attachment that goes from the front of the lorry cab over the cab, over the first car and clamps onto the front of the chassis. Here, that clamp is holding the chassis of the third car, pressing it down on top of the second car. There are also ropes tied to the support frame and looped over the third car. So the second car isn't safely secured and the third car is barely secured.
Also, the rear wheels of the second car should be in front of the bar at the back of the support frame. But to make room for the front of the third car, the second car has been shifted back so that it's rear wheels are behind that bar.
As you should be able to see, the third car is massive compared to the car underneath it. The morons who lashed this together seem to have thought that would help.

I am stating the blatantly obvious but that is very dangerous - a call to the local police would have been in order. Imagine the carnage if a car had fallen onto someone - and I’m thinking cyclist nevermind pedestrians or other road users.

Which is exactly what I did, as soon as i got a bit further down the road and safely out of his sight. He might have seen me taking pics.

Well done. Too many people wouldn’t have bothered. To use a cycling term - chapeau 😁

East Dulwich Grove today. He stopped when he realised he might not make it up the hill.
Was that because his load was too heavy?

How on early did they get the third car on top of the back one??

I have no idea. I only saw the result.

Been watching his videos for a few weeks now, has improved my driving for sure. Comments are usually refreshingly sensible too, even on bicycle-related video.

I thought his comments on that incident were spot on. In the cyclist's shoes I would probably have moved left and had words when I inevitably caught up with her rather than risk my spleen, but he was completely within his rights to hold the position. As for the motorist, it's as if there's a script that plays in their heads, I feel like I have heard all of it before.

If they used the cycle lane they'd have got ahead of the Audi in front. Daft cow would have been no better off.

Holy moley, "Sveness driving instructor videos".
Just for the sake of finality - a year or so back I had a run in with a guy who ended up jumping out his car & taking a swing at me after I started filming his reg. - only casualty of the day was my phone which was stomped upon during the exchange (while still recording, thankfully - it's last hurrah, rip brave Nokia you took one for the team).
Last week I got a notification from the PF that he'd admitted criminal damage & assault and a cheque for £500 for my inconvenience, which I will naturally spend on bike parts.
Top tip - if you need to take a pic of someone's plate with a phone, take a moving one - if things go south it's going to be inconvenient to start thinking about taking a video when some mad bastard is chasing you down the street.
