  • Yes, I do. I'll try and dig it out and take a photo.

  • It's a bit grubby, and from the feel of it the bearings could do with regreasing. It's all there though, not much wear on the brake tracks, and comes with a Marathon Plus with plenty of meat left on it. Yours for postage and a modest forum donation.

  • You're a total legend, thanks!

I'll make a donation now and will PM you my address.

  • Really want to buy a freitag backpack/brompton bag, anyone got one?

And on that note, anyone want a pretty excellent condition T bag?

  • T-bag interest here!

  • separately--anyone here bodge together their own mid-tube 'platform' on their brompton? i'm looking for one longer than the one offered by that company in barcelona but curious if anyone's already worked out a source for the right hardware u-bolts needed.

use case: place to strap down a long/large battery case

  • wrong decision IMO; the test is how do you get takeaway home which needs to stay uprtight; top load essential IMO

  • Various websites say the T bag doesn't work with the S bars - anyone have experience of that? Are they just being cautious, or is it a real no-go?

  • i use it with S bars and its fine unless you over fill the bag, or you're turning at extreme angles i guess? ive never had any real problems expect for once or twice where the bag is overflowing and it somewhat restricts my turning circle

  • Eerder Metaal have a main frame hugger for sale which does just that? I think the tricky bit is getting the curve right so it lays flat when clamped down. I’d tried a planetx/podsac cargo cage and it wasn’t great as it wasn’t suited for the curves.

  • Just cut the handle off if you are nervous; if you are competent it’s fine

  • Thanks, this looks perfect. Price isn't that bad too considering how well built it appears to be

  • @user91463 - hope you don't mind me asking you directly -

I'm looking into an electric for an elderly person in my family here in Germany.
There only seem to be 6-speed versions available here at the time (and also just turquoise (yuck) and black)..
Do you happen to know whether this will change later in the year (will 2-speeds / other colous become available again)?

Also I do get it right that if you want an electric you have to buy an electric - there is no way to "upgrade" a regular Brompton to an electric later, right?

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Regarding electric upgrade... you have a couple of aftermarket options as well

    • ebikes.ca brompton kit
    • swytch ebike conversion kit
  • ..will look into these, cheers!

  • I have the ebikes.ca kit myself on a S2L (larger and heavier direct drive set up with statorade and 21ah 52v battery). AMA

  • 6 or 2 speed available in uk, it will normally just be what the shop is choosing to buy rather than brompton saying no 2 speeds.

you can also get bolt lacquer; a blue raw lacquer; but there is also nothing, except warranty, stoping you repainting it.

I refuse to entertain the aftermarket kits; so many things make the stock brompton unsuitable for it; stay friendly with your dentist.

    ta!

  • Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!

  • @goosenoose - I understand these kits are fairly new and probably best for people who like to tune their bikes and fiddle with things. I'm really rather looking for a simple no-hassle solution for said (old) family member, but thanks for the headsup anyway, probably this will be a route I'm willing to take myself if I get a Brompton further down the line 🙂

  • That is ryan, if you don't know.

  • Same here, aftermarket kits are a no no for me.

Liability is on whoever installed it in case something happens and yeah don't think the stock brakes are rated to take that many watts!

  • I've persisted with a 2 to 3 cog conversion (stock wheel, but with an extra cog in place of the dork disc) and finally have everything fitted, but have 2 issues.

    1. The chain tensioner sticks. I've made sure to use the 'correct' chain length. I understand that the stock 2 speed is 54t + 12t/16t with 102 links, so I've used 105 links on 54t + 12t/15t/19t. Anything else to look at which might cause the tensioner to not work correctly?

    2. The other issue is that in high gear the chain rubs with the chain tensioner assembly. I could file down the plastic a couple of mm but in other mods this doesn't seem to be an issue. I used the stock brompton spacer between the high and mid sprocket, maybe that's too thick?

  • Firstly, I have nothing to do with kinetics nor have I bought anything from kinetics.

The electrification kit that the kinetics sells might be an idea as the kit is german and basically a crank replacement.

  • approve of this actually, I choose not to fit them as I simply do not wish to open the door on electric add ons but I will add two notes;

personally, just add BXP brake pads

textbook, be aware of extra weight, brompton is 110kg max rider, so if you are heavy, adding this might just be too much.
