Can anyone explain Bike-discount's rationale for thresholding UK orders at 175 €? Is it to do with customs declarations, or VAT? It's a bloody nuisance, this Brexit!

They would have to register with HMRC as a UK VAT collector if they wanted to send consignments below that.

It's to pay for your new "freedom" (TM)

Ah, clear, thank you. Looks like I shall have to add a Conti Competition tubular to my order.

I’ve done it. I’ve never been otherwise and it’s a fun way to poke around.

I need something to enable me to move the bottle cage on my downtube forward so I can fully fit a bottle into it securely. At the moment it’s hitting the seattube cage.
Any ideas or hacks?

Quick real life maths problem.
There are 2 payees
One has to pay 3/5ths as much as the other.
What percentage is this of the whole? My reckoning is
If one is paying £5 the other £3
£8 total.
So 100 ÷ 8 x 3 = 37.5%Amirite?

• #108586
Yep you’re right. The phrasing ‘3/5 as much’ threw me for a bit.

Thanks.
Yes it does sound a bit awkward.
I was writing while making my first coffeeIt seems to take 2 to get the cogs moving these days.
Is there a more elegant method?
-

If you want to stick with fractions, think of it this way. Total number of fifths:
Payee 1 pays five fifths, payee 2 pays three fifths. In total there are eight fifths.
Payee 2’s amount as a fraction of the total is 3/8=0.375. Multiply by 100 to make that a percentage =37.5%
Edit: wait, you were talking about the coffee, right? Maybe up your first morning pourover recipe from 60g/l to 70g/l.

First coffee is always burr ground (Kenwood) then stove-top (Bialetti)

Does a saddle with a cut out reduce the need to stop for a wee when riding? "Asking for a friend"

• #108592
It allows you to wee without stopping.

Wow, didn’t know this attachment existed, gonna look for one now :)

I love it.
It has proper machine cut burr grinder thingies.
I got it in a job lot on eBay- sold the other bits, paid for itself.
My mate Kurt who owns Volcano Coffee Roasters gave it his endorsement.I’m a Kenwood fan.

A webpage (of software I am allegedly in charge of at work) functions on Internet Explorer but on Edge it doesnt - saying the connection isnt secure and the site doesnt have a certificate. In both cases they are http (no s). Can I make Edge give less of a shit about this and work like IE does?
-
• #108597
I know Edge can be made to run in 'IE mode' for certain sites.
When I'm filling in my timesheets on internal system, it's apparently emulating last millennium's IE 5 (!?) via some corporate policy. And on something else, it's emulating IE10.But I don't know how it's done, or whether that will solve your particular problem. It does seem to have solved lots of compatibility issues here though - used to have to use IE, and two different versions of Chrome to get work done.

thanks! I will investigate that tomorrow :)

Both are great links and this is my preference!

I have a question about start-ups and business culture. No identifying details so I’ll speak my mind freely: when founders are hiring their first, core team members, to what degree is it expected/customary for them to blag (for want of a better word) about how established the business is?
(Editing out)
