They don't want to be WT. It makes it very expensive, because you'd be obligated to race across the globe, have more riders under contract etc. Don Patlef has made a few agitated remarks about it being unfair that such a proconti team is allowed to stay proconti despite having such quality riders winning all the races he wants to win.

How could a team like Alpecin-Fenix join the World Tour?
Surely they deserve a place over Cofidis?! I’d suggest Movistar after the latest Netflix horror show but they’ve looked more coordinated recently and I’d miss their bullshit.
