• Are there any issues with having a front rack mounted like this? I need to clear the canti straddle cable and the only way I can easily do that is to have a long spaced out bolt so the rack tab attaches in front of the straddle cable. In the photo it’s a 70mm bolt and the straddle and rack tab are just touching. I’ve ordered an 80mm bolt so it clears.

Am I putting too much leverage anywhere? Risk of fiery death?

  • I think that looks fine, though I've always preferred just to bend the silver tab itself with some big pliers and adjust the angle and where the kink is, or add another bend making more of an 's' shape If you fiddle with that a bit, you usually find it will clear the straddle in some arrangment or other.

  • I’ve done that before and made a right pigs ear of it - I mean, it worked, but it looked pretty messy. This looked like it would need a fair bit of persuading to bend enough to fit, so I wanted to try something that might look a bit neater.

I have ridden it like this now, with a bit of weight on the rack and did some emergency breaking. No fiery death straight away, which is something :-)
Also no annoying rattle, although I’ll still put a slightly longer bolt in when it arrives.
