Based on past experience having spent 6 years running in inov8 shoes.. unless they have massively improved their materials you’ll be massively disappointed by those unless you enjoy burning £5 notes...
I can’t think of a single pair of inov8s that didn’t fall apart much beyond 200km.. I used to live with this as I almost exclusively bought last years shoes at knock down rates and they are fantastic shoes.. but £170 for those is a joke...
My Hoka’s at that kind of money have stormed through 700 odd km and aren’t falling apart...

I'm on my second pair of mud claws but which i love but i suppose mud doesn't shred soles. They also really suit my foot shape. I thought the new Graphene outsoles were meant to be really hard wearing. £170 is a bit strong but as soon as they hit £140 I'll grab a pair. I've only had 2 pairs of Hokas. Some rockets x's that were ok but a bit short for me and my speedgoats have been relegated to dog walking shoes as I've just never enjoyed running in them they've got no grip and are really heavy. I've got some Mizuno wave Diachis still going strong after 300-400 miles. Mizuno seem to be a bit less popular recently but I've liked every pair I've had. I'm sure they're still making good trainers

Interesting comments there, £170 doesn't really appeal to me if they're not top notch.
Any views on Peregrines for cushioning? The blurb seems pretty good, meets my needs and comes in a reasonable price.

I use Peregrines and the tread lasts a long time (I've got over 800km on one pair and the tread looks unchanged from day 1). They're not great for deep mud though but still an awful lot better than normal running shoes.
No idea how they compare to other trail shoes for cushioning though as I've only used Peregrines for trail and Jazz (the normal versions, not the retro versions) for road running.
I've done a few few half trail half pavement HM in my Peregrines though, without any comfort problems.

Thank, Gonna give them a try as can get them for a good price. Worst case they'll just be my swim run trail shoes.

I know it's been asked a million times, but what earphones are people using these days?
I've traditionally used wired buds (decade+ old Sennheiser CX 200), but they've died. Don't get on with CX 300 because of the unequal length cable, even with a hair clip on my collar to stop them bouncing around. Tried urBeats3 but the flat, stiff cable is no use for running in. My inner ears are tiny, so bluetooth buds won't stay in. So it's all a bit frustrating. Thinking it might need to be a switch to over-ears?

I've recently started using the Aftershocks bone ones for similar reasons (hate cables, don't like in ear ones).
Skeptical at first, but I actually really like them. You can still hear what's around you which is nice in the woods.
I mostly listen to podcasts though when running rather than music.

The Aftershokz are brilliant (I have the Aeropex) - there's nothing to become uncomfortable, sweaty and fall out of your ears, there's nothing to snag on our clothes, and none of that annoying bounce noise that you get from wireless in-ear headphones that join behind your head.
The fact that you can hear other things is pretty useful too, although you can always use foam lugs if you want to blot the world out (they're brilliant for DIY too, as you can have ear plugs and music at the same time).

How well do the bone conduction ones work with glasses/sunglasses? Guess I should go along to a local running shop to give them a try.
Also, to bastardise Noel Coward ... Mad dogs and Englishmen go out for a midday run.
It's hot out there.

I've looked at bone conduction ones before and the general result is they can't do much bass. I listen to bassy music - probably should have put that up there! ^^^
Ok, so not exactly looked at this in a lot of depth, but I have read this and this as well as a few articles a while back about wired earphones with lighting connector.
I guess shopping list might look something like this:
-Jabra Elite Active 75t - Except the review of the 65t says the bass is not very impressive. RRP is £££ but you can get them for £35 on eBay, hmmm...
-Beats Powerbeats Pro - Tempting because I like the way the urBeats3 sound. But spendy. I got what appear to be genuine urBeats3 for a snip of the RRP, so I'm suspicious about the pricing here.
-JBL Reflect Mini 2 - really cheap at £40 as they're now an older model. -

I've not had a problem with cat, glasses and aftershokz on at the same time.
Add a face mask to the mix, though, and I end up pinging everything all over the shop.

Anyone fancy doing the Hackney half? I am now doing the marathon the week after so probs not in my best interests to run it, but too late for a refund!

Sunk costs as far as I am concerned, but a donation to the forum and/or Sarcoma UK would be great! Send me a PM, not sure logistically how this works tbh

Guys I'm really slow at the moment and it's kind of bumming me out. I just feel like I've got no gas in the tank and my HR seems super high. Not sure whats up.

If anyone is interested in following someone's progress towards a summer Paddy Buckley Round then Russell Bentley is posting videos here: https://youtu.be/Iz92ljrL6QU
He's done a winter one before but is going for a summer attempt now.

When I feel like that a week off running seems to do the trick...

Heat and hay fever?
I’m finding the same. Was at track on Tuesday and my 500s were slower than I’d been doing 800s on my own in the rain down the Thames Path the week before.
I just don’t really function when it’s hot, don’t feel like I can breathe fully and my HR is high for the pace -

Anyone else’s hands tingle when you are getting close to your limit? Trying to run up a long hill or similar, it’s really off putting.

^ no, sounds like blood going to important bits and away from less useful (at that moment) bits?
In other news... banned:
I’ve used hoka speed goats for a year or so now. They are decent on hard trails or grass but pretty useless when it’s muddy and slippy. I’m not massively keen on them for technical descents as they have quite a lot of cushion and you feel a bit high if that makes sense.
I’m looking at the above inov8 for my next trail shoe and have some grippy inov8 for when it’s muddy.
